Will an increasingly 'lawless' society be the breeding ground for vigilantism?

This is appalling! But of course they know there's a) little chance of police attendance and b) even less chance of getting caught (although apparently some arrests have been made in connection with this incident).

Think I might have been tempted to use the cafes fire extinguisher with a blast into his helmet. Mind you, probably looking at an assault charge from the little st if you tried it! Hope the 2 in custody prove to be the right ones or give 'em up!

I think there might be a market for a motorbike alarm/tracker with an 'unfortunate' tendency to spontaneous combustion.

Car crime in London is effectively decriminalised now frown

https://www.lbc.co.uk/news/police-effectively-decr...

I drive an old non-sporty appearing car, no way I'd have anything nice now.

No point in vigilantism, around here even just disturbing the crims gets your head bashed in with an iron bar:

Shame you can't do it here.

Phone theft, e bike theft, motor bike theft etc.. all increasingly brazen and unpunished these days even if they somehow get caught/noticed.

Catalytic converters theft is a bit old skool in comparison. Why do that when you can push someone off an e bike and ride off with 4k?

It makes you not want to have anything nice to avoid unnecessary attention!

And I'm glad we can, with the added bonus of it being perfectly legal, some of the time biggrin

“You there! Stop that at once!’’

Okay, sorry.

“I should think so, now go home and think about what you have done”

Sorry again Sir, I will now give up my life of crime.

They are getting some pretty solid evidence filming the crime in progress.

A security challenged them and their response was to threaten him with a brick.

I wouldn't expect anybody else to tackle them under those circumstances.

My Grandmother taught me evil exists because good people do nothing.
What is happening is not acceptable, so what is acceptable to stop the crime without getting yourself hurt.
I think first thing to do is kick over the other bike.

Ding.

There's four of them and they have a weapon. Unless you are with a group of mates, leave well alone. One lone person trying to intervene is going to come off worse (unless that person is some sort of Ninja who can inflict enough harm on one or two to make them all scarper).

I saw 5 neds on peds trying to nick my neighbour's bike one evening - I shouted abuse out them from a 2nd floor window once I worked out what they were up to, and they exchanged a "few pleasantries" with me from a safe distance, but they gave up after a minute or so - bold as brass, and I think they just were just a bit amateur rather than being bothered about me shouting at them. In my jim jams and slippers so not in much of a position to go out and confront them in a hurry, but not really sure I would have been up to that to be fair - they were clearly tooled up with something to break locks/barrels etc and I am not a "scrapper."

Had it been my own stuff they were nicking I might have felt a bit more inclined to go down and try and frighten them off, but there wasn't much time, and 1 vs 5 isn't great odds - it was the time of evening when I could have been returning home late and that would have it much more awkward given it was right outside my door.

What can anyone do really?

If the police are under resourced/don’t care what can the public do? These lowlife keep on doing it cos they know they can. There was already that guy who got jail time after chasing the guys who tried to steal his motorbike and had an an accident with them.

I fear we’ll get to a point where someone has enough of this and does some extremely bad stuff.

The next big boom industry in this country will be security.

Another 10 years (when it's got so bad it starts to really impact the wealthy), we will start to see gated communities and privately funded neighbourhood security forces.

Grumps.

I agree but it just won’t ever happen unfortunately.

And like you said, if you do and something happens it would be you inside, not the criminal.

Exactly.
The only effective thing your average member of the public could do would be to run the scrotes over.

Not worth it for some other sod's Chinese 125.
