My wife today received a PCN from parking eye for staging in a retail park for a total of 7 hrs 12 minutes. It is clearly sign posted 2 hrs max stay. There is photographic evidence of her arrival at 8. 58 and her leaving at 16.10.

Fair enough you say, however, she turned around in their car park at 8.58, collecting me as I had dropped off my car for servicing near by and walked to the entrance of the retail car so we were in the car park less than 1 minute.

She dropped me home then drove some 20 miles away meeting up with friends for coffee and later met with a friend for lunch.

She returned home collecting me then we went to the retail car park and dropped me off at around 15.30 so I could collect my car from servicing and she went shopping spending some £55 in one of the shops, leaving at 16.10.

I cannot believe that Parking Eye cameras failed to register her exit at around 09.00 nor register entering for the second time.

I fear this is an attempt to extort money with false/incomplete photographic evidence.

I have submitted an appeal under Appeals Department Parking Eye which I fully expect to be rejected, and I will submit a further appeal to Popla in due course. Should that fail I am willing to have my day in court.

Anyone else been stung by these shysters.

We did exactly the same, two visits to a BP garage in London area in a single day, with only the first and last entrance/exit shown as evidence. We appealed and they relented and told us that "this time" they are going to waive the charge. Tossers.

What’s hacking me off is I know that the appeal is the start of a load of admin I will have to do culminating possibly in a court appearance as there is no way I am paying this highway robbery.

They say you did something you say you didn’t, appeal to them they reject it, wash and repeat.

I wonder how many people just give in and pay under the weight of their false threats.

Grrrr

I had exactly the same scenario. I did a reverse around the corner manoeuvre into the entrance of the carpark twice in one day to pick someone up/drop them off.

I wrote to them stating the above and added "Given that you can have no evidence proving the car was parked in the carpark for the duration you alledge I accept your apology for this mistake. Any further action from yourselves on this matter will be ignored."

They actually did apologise and cancelled the charge.

It's a relatively common problem, given that I suspect they'll accept your representation and cancel the fine with whatever good or bad grace they can muster.

It's called "double dipping". Lots of tips on how to proceed on MSE and Pepipoo.

My wife left her car overnight in a Parking Eye controlled area. She had fainted at a dentist. An ambulance was called, and I was called too. I had to take her home, and collect the car the next day. I had a full NHS copy of the ambulance write-up with times, dates and conditions. Naturally their invoice was cancelled on appeal.

Had something similar a few years ago.

Wrote them a note saying I had been into the local Halfords to pick up something I needed for the car, I left and then went back about 4 hours later when I needed something else. I never heard from them again so can only assume it was accepted and went away.

OP:

1. submit a 'Subject Access Request' to PE for all ANPR logs and pictures from that day. These will likely show an orphan image.

2. Gather evidence and witness statements showing where your wife (and if possible the car) was during the day.

As above, it is called "double dipping" and is completely deliberate by them.... entirely an attempt to mug you off for £60/£100.

They know you didn't stay that long and entered/left on two occasions.

The "private parking" industry is absolute scum

I had the same after visiting a drive through McDonalds twice in one day (it was only for coffee in my defence). Luckily we have cctv above our garage, so I just replied with a timsestamped screenshot showing me parked at home at the time I was supposed parked at McD's. Got a reply straight away with an apology.

Thats exactly what i was going to say - its a know and very easy defence which should quickly result in cancellation of the invoice from them.

No need for a complicated process op, you don’t need to jump through their hoops. Just reply stating what happened and that you will not enter into any further correspondence with them.

In the early 90s my boss parked in the street outside our office. It was a 1 hour spot with no return for 2 hours. The traffic warden used to mark tyres with chalk to see if cars had moved or not between visits.

My boss left to go to a meeting 55 miles away, and on his return managed to park in the same spot he had been in earlier and even managed to get the chalk marks lined up as well. Total fluke.

He got a ticket, appealed with evidence from the company he had visited and the ticket was scrapped.

Just goes to show that this was happening long before parking companies and cameras.

Nothing like being unnecessarily confrontational and ruffling feathers when trying to get a company who can make your life hell to relent and act in your interest rather than theirs.

T&C’s of the car park most likely state it’s for customers of the retail park only.
They will have CCTV of your wife dropping you off and picking you up without visiting any of the shops.
I know this has happened often in the leisure park in Stevenage where people would get dropped off for the station.

Not confrontational at all, just state the facts. If the op gets further involved they’re likely to try to frighten or grind him down.

The op’s response needs to be concise, polite but firm.

Since they stopped clamping I have never paid a private parking ticket. Plenty of standard responses online and they will all cancel the "invoice".

It seems that the potential CCTV would be more helpful to the driver.

If it shows someone being dropped off or picked up, then it won't prove unlawful parking, which is what the parking company would be claiming for.

PE don't have 'CCTV' in the sense of constant recording

They have ANPR which just registers number plates coming and going (sometimes!)
