I'll be watching with interest. If he's able to access the protected data and shared without permission then he's one silly twonk!

I had no idea that you couldn't google information whilst on jury duty.

I knew you couldn't research the defendant's history but not that you couldn't look into more general stuff like DNA reliability.

Fairly sure as a juror you get a briefing on this though so cannot claim ignorance?

Max of two years in prison. Didn't realise either. I wonder how they would know if you've researched the defendant though? Assuming you don't do what he did and tell others...

Agreed. Same warnings I got when I did jury service.

No doubt this big gob decided to decide to be the judge and barrister himself and "work the room" to be the big I am.

I can actually see this based on how stupid and naive locals are down here in the South West.

When you say you can't research the defendant how on earth do you manage to NOT do that when you know there names.

It must be extremely difficult to make judgement on someone when you feel you are not in possession of all the facts, information, knowledge, or understanding.

While taking the direction of the proceedings is going to be paramount. I find myself struggling to not immediately research further into the links above and I had no vested interest at all.

Jury duty is a heavy burden.
It is the responsibility of the prosecution and of the defence to make those representations, not some ‘knot-hole-through-the-fence’ look at social media.

I'm not sure you understand how the system is supposed to work

The jury I really feel sorry for at the moment is the Lucy Letby one. That case is a nightmare.

I'm glad I clicked on the link. I am so determined to own a cask of whiskey at 8-12% return, AND I know how to burn belly fat. Oh yeah.

Are jurors not allowed to ask questions?

I was on a jury where some jurors wanted questions answered during deliberations. The clerk went to the judge and we reassembled in court to hear the judge tell us we had all the information we needed. And out we went again.

You're not Perry Mason or Columbo. You are a lay person whose opinion is sought after hearing two sides of an argument. If you dick about with the process, you are in contempt of court.

Interesting… i was obviously aware of PCOJ etc but not these specific offences.

Must be a fine line between ‘general knowledge’ and testing evidential concepts

Yes jurors are allowed to ask questions during the trial. There is normally a time set aside after each witness to ask questions although they are to seek clarification of evidence discussed and not to guess the murder weapon

You're not supposed to be in possession of all the facts, information, knowledge, or understanding. You're supposed to make a decision based on the evidence presented in court supplemented by any information, knowledge, or understanding provided by the judge.

I've done jury service a few times and they make it abundantly clear that you can't do your own research.

Now should a juror deal with knowledge they already hold?
