I apprehend a Burglar

A rather scruffy individual was casing our house from our rear garden! I confronted him and held him until police arrived following my wife’s 999 call.
In discussion with him whilst waiting for police he explained he was a bird watcher and followed birds to the extent he would enter people’s property to view them!
He was Polish and homeless and occasionally sleeps in hostels but mostly sleeps rough. He had a small rucksack and bumbag. He came across as “not all there”
He was interested in my FFRR which is on on private plate, asking if was electric and trying to determine the year.
Once police arrived, arrested and handcuffed him he admitted several arrests for this very thing. He was carted off to the local nick.
When a wpc returned she explained that organised criminal gangs exploit such individuals to gather intel for a possible future visit!
So, be aware if you have some poor vacant looking individual on your property, report it and be
Extra vigilant going forward.

The stairs dominators of PH won't agree with that .They're all dead hard !
What happened next was verified by the police who watched the CCTV. You see a key which is dud land outside the front door, when thief turn around to pick them up, my mate gives him the biggest whack with a baseball bat before holding him down.
That guy while think twice before attempting that again, although he's out of bail. Plod came around 'for a chat' and challenged the mate if he thought defending his property with reasonable force was justified. No charges but he did attend the station with his solicitor a few days later.

You could also say giving into it only encourages it.I'm not leaving my car keys on a plate for theives.
nb: I also accept their has to be a compromise. I had to watch 4 "youths" walk off with a scooter of mine in London when they threatened me ("come on then!" was their response). I'm not stupid (or a tough guy)

I have a friend who used to say things like that, until he got a knife through the palm of his hand trying to stop somebody who broke into his house to take his RS7. He now has very limited movement in his left hand and leaves his keys hanging on a hook by the front door.Let them take it. What a silly thing to say.
