W Yorks police arrest autistic teenage girl for hate speech
Discussion
It will be interesting to see how this goes. More to the story (no info on why the police were at the door in the first place) or is it the duck that it looks like?
The claim is that the girl remarked, to her mother, in her own home, that a police officer looked like a lesbian "like Nana", and was arrested for hate speech.
Replying "I don't care!" when told that the terrified girl is autistic certainly isn't a good look.

By biggest problem with this is West Yorkshire Police complaining they don’t have the funding or resources to do their job. Isn’t this a waste of time and resources and is it worth it?
When I’ve reported real crimes to West Yorkshire Police, such as burglary, attempted car theft, stealing items from a car, mugging / assault. West Yorkshire Police did nothing and quickly closed the cases.
From what I’ve seen, West Yorkshire Police do absolutely nothing about dangerous / reckless driving and drug dealing. Some cities in West Yorkshire have become decriminalised.

Can't watch the video on my phone for some reason (it's not loading) but what specific offence did they arrest for?
Given she was inside a private dwelling (as was the officer) I'd have thought anything public order related was off the table?
If the provided video is a full and complete account of the event, then it appears the arrest was made due to the officer's feelings being hurt. She does have a sGiven she was inside a private dwelling (as was the officer) I'd have thought anything public order related was off the table?
t haircut though. It's obvious why they are short of resources - sending no fewer than 7 uniformed officers to arrest one mouthy and autistic teenager beggars belief.
I have watched enough road traffic programmes about the West Yorkshire force to know that when there's a fail to stop, every police car in a 25 mile radius immediately drops whatever they are doing to join in playing adrenaline filled cops and robbers at high speed.

I too have seen this but also I've seen where they stop the driver and immediately other members of "the community" are out on the street involving themselves in the bruvs arrest. I recall an episode where a lone offer whilst attempting an arrest was held by an elder of the community and the cuz ran off.I have watched enough road traffic programmes about the West Yorkshire force to know that when there's a fail to stop, every police car in a 25 mile radius immediately drops whatever they are doing to join in playing adrenaline filled cops and robbers at high speed.
I thought I must try that in London as a white, middle aged, middle class male and see if they too just ignore this. I had to go to Dewsbury last year, the person I visited was busy telling me about the lovely countryside all the while ignoring the elephant in the room.

The turning up mob-handed happens in Nottinghamshire too, where I live. You rarely see the police around here from one week to the next, but a few weks ago when they wanted to arrest a person of ill repute who happened to be filling his car with fuel at the Asda perol station (committing no offence whatsoever at that actual moment as far as one could see), no fewer than 7 officers arrived in 5 separate cars, all on blue lights.

They had four or five Specials on duty twiddling their thumbs so sent them along too?

This point is correct and was my first thoughts. Given she was inside a private dwelling (as was the officer) I'd have thought anything public order related was off the table?
If a cop is arresting someone for a simply calling them a nasty name on one single occasion they need to give their head a wobble.
I suspect there may be a little bit more to the story.

I agree with you, the episodes from Bradford in particular are strong evidence of the one way street that is racial discrimination in the UK in the 21st Century.

Perhaps information and intelligence indicated that it was necessary to use a few officers in order to safely make the arrest? The turning up mob-handed happens in Nottinghamshire too, where I live. Nothing surprises me about this.
They've made their decision 'she's getting arrested' on the whim of the offended and some hate crime policy and that's that. No ability to actually look at the situation more rationally and decide actually, on the balance of probability the mum's right, the girl is on the spectrum / has severe learning difficulties and isn't really aware of what she's said. Even if she'd been verbally offensive at that point it would have been best to walk away, but no they had to 'teach her a lesson'.
My own 18 year old is ASD and would behave very similarly to this girl in these circumstances. The absolute last thing she would possibly need is to have a bunch of police pile on and drag her out of her home.
A very difficult video to watch.

Note the last frames, the look on the b
hy wpc's face, a look of realisation that she has dropped the ball here big time and has just starred in her own viral career wrecking clip. That stupid woman has just undone years of community policing for some ego trip. pathetic.
On a positive note, very likely a decent payout £££££ waiting there for wrongful arrest. And one muppet who is doing parking tickets for the next year.
I can't believe at least one of the plod didn't realise during that exchange that they had dropped a ball and needed to back out, give heads a shake and have a think about whats happening
Just needed one to say ' hold on here, step out everyone and have a chat about how this is going'
Does them no favours
Especially when their chief is then sat cowering behind an imam at a school in Wakefield because a kid has dropped a book

I hadn't watched the video before I posted but that's just the height of insanity, the poor kid is literally hiding in the shoe cupboard.
The non offended officers should tell their colleague to grow up, this is actually bullying because getting back to the other "community", they wouldn't carry on like that in their locale.
It's like the Just Stop Oil nutters who constantly cause my van aggro dropping stuff to London but I can't condone these people who attack them because the very same people wouldn't attack a BLM march or 50 Mosque goers.

that will be the same intelligence used to deal with these hate crimes and allegations ?https://www.examinerlive.co.uk/news/local-news/pol...
nothing in that press release about how the death threat investigation has proceeded as such ? looks like they just spoke to either child about the incident
