Speeding ticket from Germany
Discussion
Was caught speeding in Germany 10th Feburay in a Swiss rental car.
Havnt been in UK since March so my mail is usually checked but these letters seemed to have slip past.. I returned to UK last week and opened them myself:
12.04
Recevied first letter to povide personal details of driver - failure punishable by finacial penality
- imposed one month driver ban - 4 month grace period otherwise suspension extended by the interval between the penalty notice taking effect and submission of the license. If fail to submit the drivers license it will be confiscated.
10.05
Reminder letter saying so far the identity of the driver is not determined beyond any doubt
So it's now been over 4 months I can't declare online who was the driver as it says the case has been escalated to court.
I tried calling the number on the letter twice but got no answer so I emailed them explaining - that was last week and no reply so far.
What happens now? Presume the ban is for driving in Germany rather than following me back to the UK?

Great! Was pretty sure they couldn’t ban or confiscate my license
I'd say it needs to be dealt with if you ever want to visit Germany again though, especially if it's going to court!CharlesdeGaulle said:

Certainly that is the case for first time offenders, otherwise the ban starts instantly.
I think if you hold a foreign licence and don't live in Germany, you can get a sticker put on your licence for the period of the driving ban, but can drive elsewhere.
Maybe get in touch with a German lawyer who maybe able to help you? Look here too:

No mention of fine but according to the link it’s not going to be cheap(as expected)I think if you hold a foreign licence and don't live in Germany, you can get a sticker put on your licence for the period of the driving ban, but can drive elsewhere.

Blimey! How quick were you going?
I think up to 25kmh over the limit is quite 'cheap' (certainly compared to the UK and countries surrounding Germany) and then it runs up a bit, including 1 month bans for repeat offenders.
Motorway camera just after an unrestricted section I think up to 25kmh over the limit is quite 'cheap' (certainly compared to the UK and countries surrounding Germany) and then it runs up a bit, including 1 month bans for repeat offenders.

I don’t know much about the German legal system but they can’t ban you from driving in the UK.
Good luck op.
Not only that, the Germans cannot ban you from driving in any other country.Good luck op.
Personally I would have ignored it totally - no way would I send a UK driving licence to foreign authorities.
Make sure you don't get stopped for any reason whilst driving in Germany.

Do not send them your license op. They’ve no right to demand it.
