Daughters car failed MOT for rear fog light not working issue is it is a complete LED unit quite common on this vehicle and nobody has any stock managed to source one on an online auction site but delivery due date seems to b a bit flaky basically another 10+ days is this sort of a failure deemed illegal to drive as MOT runs out in a couple of days.
Seems a bit harsh as not expecting any fog soon lol just trying to see if there is any way round until a replacement arrives

As we have debated many times, illegality to drive because of a fault and illegality to drive because of no MoT are not directly related.Practically speaking driving around with as duff fog light is very low risk of prosecution. Driving around with no MoT (having failed one) is probably quite a low risk of prosecution. Depends on your (duaghter's) view of risk of prosecution and the consequences.
And just to add, I have seen (actually had) an insurance policy in the past that stipulated that the car needed to have an MoT (in the circumstances where it legally needed one). I think we concluded that they probably don't exist anymore and also that it was probably a condition the ins co couldn't insist on. So if you do choose to drive without an Mot worth a quick check of the policy on the offchance.

Or easier, just don't drive without an MOT.Your daughter's car might ,stress 'might', get pinged by ANPR before you can fit the replacement unit; it's a risk you (and she) will have to take but a fail is a fail just like it was on my Fiesta last week for a none working brake light even though the other two were shining brightly.

Based on my experience and others, they won't flag it by default, only if someone specifically runs a check for the status. For my part, yes, I'd drive it for a couple of days until I got the replacement part in.
Thanks for all the replies thought LED were more reliable what happened to the days you popped down to Halfords for a bulb the car is a 2016 VW beetle did have a quick look when up on ramp apparently common issue as there is no protection from rear wheel so gets hammered with all the crap kicked up fingers crossed arrives soon
Best to book the mot a month in advance , you will get 13 months if it passes so nothing lost and plenty of time to sort it for free retest.
Pain though as you say. I always do a bulb check before presenting. Weirdly I seem to have a habit of blowing number plate bulbs on the way to the test station.

LED units are more reliable. That doesn't mean they never fail though.Gassing Station | Speed, Plod & the Law | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
