Spotted for the very first time, an unmarked Police EV, a Kia SUV of some sort. At Baldock services being plugged in by a traffic officer in uniform.

Not seen one before. Has this been around for a while?

Most likely a demo car or possibly a pool vehicle.

I don’t think it’s such an outlandish idea. I saw this last year queuing up to charge:

Gloucestershire police have been using EVs since 2019 (or 2018?).

Most likely a fleet vehicle from the manufacturer/importer, a well-established process for putting new cars out to arduous users to get high-mileage, heavy service feedback. Major manufacturers do/did it all the time with ICE cars, so not much different.

I agree.

The force should issue them with portable charging stations.

South Wales police have been using a marked Model 3 for a year or two now. It's not a show car.

The EV6 has been used by a few emergency services already, but I'd not seen any confirmation that police fleets had taken it on. Maybe the GT performance model is the one that got the nod.

We've had electric cars in force for at least 10 years, used as enquiry cars by investigation teams so it could be something along those lines.

Long way from home in an enquiry so needs to top up.

God forbid that a police officer take a break during their shift, even worse if they actually leave the car and get something to eat.

I fear I’ve been misinterpreted! I wasn’t suggesting that cops having some downtime was an issue; I very much hope (but also very much doubt) that breaks are adequate during a shift, particularly for those officers who are driving at high speed regularly. No what I mean is having period of 30 mins or whatever where the car is offline is not a good use of officers’ time. A police car involved in response or pursuit activities needs to be readily available, it’s crew taking their brakes around whatever shouts come up and spending five minutes at a fuel pump when needed. Using EVs for political reasons is clearly not a help.

That is all!

I saw a marked up i3 driving down Topler's Hill towards Baldock services a few years back... Not sure it would have been much use for a high speed pursuit!

I’ve seen a white unmarked Tesla with blue lights on a shout in west Kent. Was surprised to see it but it was certainly making progress.

He was not showing blues so I can confirm that no, he didn’t get to skip past me.
