Just a heads up really, the new ulez cameras are being used for speeding and probably others offences as well. I’ve just been Caught for speeding where there were previously no cameras for speeding and have been caught by a new ulez camera install recently.

That's a bit odd. Are you sure there wasn't a van or something nearby?

(Usually these cameras are dedicated to their purpose...not that I'm an expert)

I thought everyone knew the cameras have nothing to do with emissions? Does anyone still actually believe that claptrap?
The real, and obvious, reason for installing hundreds of cameras is for surveillance and control. The cash is good for them too, but that is secondary.

So yes, they will no doubt record speeding, have facial recognition etc etc.

Doesn't the road need to have the white painted calibration lines? Or, were they also there?

Absolutely. Have you worked out why they only want to crudely surveil and control you in the ULEZ zone rather than use your phone to track you anywhere in the world or your social media / loyalty cards and the rest to predict your behaviour and nudge your beliefs and control you in your daily life?

There are new cameras that don't need the lines.

"Once the testing has been completed, they will be used to ensure scheme integrity and to ensure the cameras only capture vehicles driving on the roads entering/exiting or driving inside the ULEZ area. The mobile ANPR camera data will not be used for traffic monitoring." 29 Aug 2023

You can ask for the photo which will identify the location.

It’s nothing to do with phones or loyalty cards. That’s a separate issue. It’s to do with ultimately restricting private vehicle use, wether there are any emissions or not in the future. Coming to every town/city, obviously not just London.

So, if I have got this right, do I get some Tesco clubcard points if I drive past a ULEZ camera?

The ULEZ cameras are ANPR. They can't directly measure your speed (there is no radar in them) but then can record the time you drive past them, so they could be used to perform average speed checks. I've no idea if they are.

Probably only if the clubcard is wearing a tinfoil hat.

Or maybe it's to deter the most polluting vehicles from cities to improve air quality.

As for restricting car use, If it's a step towards weaning a fat and unfit population away from car use for every short journey and starting to think about towns and cities that aren't designed exclusively around car use then I'm all for it.

It's entirely possible to enjoy car ownership without having to jump in a diesel every time you leave the house

I know, I have never owned a diesel.

Taking your post at face value OP - Ask for the evidence - a quick generic email response to the NIP - 'I am the registered keeper, however am currently unsure who might have been driving at the time of alleged offence. In order to assist me in determining this please can you send me a copy of the recorded footage/screen grab/evidence" blah blah etc.

From that determine if it was a ULEZ or mobile.

Why do you have an account on Piston Heads?

And is London designed exclusively around the car?

Thanks.
