Yesterday (Saturday) morning at 7am, I pulled into what I believed was a valid parking space, due to the kerbside parking sign - see image, below. However, when I got out of the car, I spotted a second sign attached to the wall "THE RECESSED PARKING BAYS ARE PRIVATE PROPERTY". I got back in my car and went forth and multiplied.

For context, here is the location on street view. So how does this work? According to the kerbside sign, anyone can park there between 8pm and 9am. Yet the warning notice seems to say the recessed bays are for resident permit holders only 24/7.

If the recessed bays are for residents only 24/7 then the kerbside sign is incorrect and lures unsuspecting punters like myself to park there - potentially adding to the coffers of Wing Security Ltd.

Am I interpeting these signs correctly - or am I missing something?

As far as I understand clamping is not allowed by private firms, are the wall-mounted signs ancient?
Note: around the corner there are, what I would consider as ‘recessed’ parking bays, these seem to be on private property.

Confusing indeed! I would have done as you did and gone somewhere else. As mentioned above I didn't think clamping was allowed anymore.

As above - that's an old sign. Clamping by private firms no longer allowed

That looks like wishful thinking by one of the residents... if the bays were private property, why not have the signage at the edge of the bay, or markings painted on the bays? Nope, that's public.

Wing Parking stopped managing parking at all in January this year

Their phone number doesn't even take incoming calls now

I would assume it is a sign put up when the blocks were built but has never been removed

Okay - thanks. I found the relevant info on the Wing Parking website - screenshot below.

Shame there isn't a law whereby clamping firms could be prosecuted and fined for not removing obsolete signs. wink
