Collecting a car - would DOC be enough?

Long story short - I've been asked to collect a car from a garage and drive it to a friend's house.
Do I need to arrange some kind of day Insurance or will I be covered by the "Driving Other cars" clause on my own insurance policy?
Is the vehicle also insured under it's own policy.Do I need to arrange some kind of day Insurance or will I be covered by the "Driving Other cars" clause on my own insurance policy?
A lot of DOC cover requires the vehicle also be insured under it's own policy.

Most that I've come across at work (roads policing so a daily occurrence for me) require the car to be insured itself. You also can't own both vehicles (you've said dropping it to a friends, is it yours or your friends?). Some also have a limit on price of the car. £25,000 seems the number I remember of the top of my head.
It may be worth looking at Cuvva the app. I paid £12 for two hours fully comp.

I got a quote from GetShorty - £35 for the day. Some also have a limit on price of the car. £25,000 seems the number I remember of the top of my head.

I was just thinking - this must be a regular occurrence for everybody who buys a second hand car?

That's what I thought as well. No it isn't covered by insurance once I drive it off the dealer forecourt.A lot of DOC cover requires the vehicle also be insured under it's own policy.
Here's an example from mine (Direct Line), it does not require the other vehicle to have a policy in force:

I bought a car recently from.a dealer which is used. The dealer offered me 5 day drive away cover for a price, didnt ask what the price was as I arranged my own policy for the car. I was just thinking - this must be a regular occurrence for everybody who buys a second hand car?
Dealers do have facilities usually, sometimes they will do.it for free or as part of the sale and sometimes not.

Read your policy document, not just the certificate.

If it's a second car often your DOC cover will exclude other cars owned by you etc.
It won't be owned by me. However on a related matter is it "cars "cars owned by me" or "cars in my household"? Since it was mentioned on Pistonheads a few years ago I've made sure I'm a named driver on both my wife and my daughter's cars rather than assume DOC would cover me. However as they're now owned by me does that mean DOC would have been sufficient for me?

That's only for rare policies that give comp DOC. For 99% of DOC clauses, as it's tpo cover, the value of the car you're driving is completely irrelevant.
Unless you prang it! We had a client who borrowed a friend's XJ220 and relied on his (TPO) DOC extension for cover.Jamescrs said:

As above, we bought a new car from a main dealer a few years back and they offered us 5 (or 7?) days insurance FOC.Dealers do have facilities usually, sometimes they will do.it for free or as part of the sale and sometimes not.
Don't know if there were any restrictions or fancy T&Cs as we already had insurance and so didn't need it.
Also not been offered similar since on new car purchases so maybe not a 'thing' anymore?
