Ordered some laminate on line, when it arrived it was not as per the sample that we had, so asked for refund/return and when the supplier would collect the laminate.
Short story short, supplier decided refund is ok and has done so but advises that cost of collecting by them was not cost effective so to dispose of as we wish.
The query is: can i insist/force them to collect the laminate?

If the company doesn't want it back, then i think it would be hard to show that you have been materially disadvantaged by being given a refund and the goods.

Practical solutions are to sell it, bin it, or leave it outside with a "FREE" sign on until someone takes it.

you have a point, but the op has now got to deal with what he was sent, selling, disposing is a hastle, so he is inconvenianced to a point. he may live miles from a tip etc

rolleyes In all likelihood someone's going to have it fairly quickly, and for minimal grief - particularly if it's offered 'free to collector'. There's probably some cash to be be made realistically.

No
They have refunded you so you are now in the position you were in before the order.
They have complied with the rules in that they must repair, replace, reduce the price or give you a refund.
You have the refund

Bizarre.

You get the money, free laminate flooring to chuck on Ebay or facearse and make profit.

Not exactly a hassle is it?

Fair enough.

I guess people have money to burn!

The legal position is that it is incredibly difficult to get a mandatory injunction to force someone to do something, particularly if damages would be an adequate remedy. best you could hope for probably is your fuel for taking it to the tip, plus some time costs if you use a days' holiday?

The most you could hope for is compensation for the cost of disposal but as the goods have value it shouldn't cost you anything to ge rid of them.

What’s the difference between waiting round at home for a company to collect a return to waiting round at home for a neighbour (via Facebook) to collect?

I’d have thought the company would want to collect during working hours at a time convenient to them whereas the Facebook collection would be at a time to suit you. I know which I’d prefer.

I doubt you can force them to take it back. Have you check their T&C's? I'm sure there is a paragraph or two about returns, etc.

If that happened to me I would put it out on a local faceache group.

Probably more effort and hassle discussing what to do with it on here, than actually just getting rid of it all.

If you live in Buckinghamshire the household recycling cost to dispose of Kitchen worktops (equivalent size of a door, 2m x 1m) is £10.50 per sheet.

I was waiting for the OP to say the company refused to refund, not give him a full refund and say keep/dispose of it as you feel fit.

Bet the OP goes on Freecycle and expects it to be delivered as well.

When you buy anything unseen you are accepting it might not be correct/perfect/etc, this just sounds like unrealistic expectations.
