so there is a person who has a car with no rear numberplate which has been like that for a month, would you report it? I would think going up to the chap would be a non no given the propensity for people to react to any form of comment with outright aggression.

I know its sounds like grassing someone up but what happens if they are involved in an accident a leave the scene etc etc.

Just interested in people's opinons

I'd say in all likelihood they're trying to reduce their cost of motoring, and you can't blame them for it. I'd leave well enough alone. It's already anarchy on the roads now there are no police, so screw it.

Actually it would be cool if someone organised a no numberplate day in protest about the amount of automatic stealth tax going on. He's probably got the right idea.

I remember someone on PH saying their plate fell off and they're seeing how long it takes for someone to stop them for it.

probably a 'cost' excercise, to right.

and short of not screwing one back on for MOT who can blame him

I'd echo previous comments and say "forget it".

Bearing in mind he may also be un-insured, or disqualified, and if involved in for example a hit and run, speed off, I think I would let the Boys in blue know, wouldnt hurt would it? may save someones life. Maybe he doesnt even know its fell off?

This has happened to me, though I dont think it was me that said it.

Havnt had a front plate for about 6 months now (looks a lot better ) , and I used to worry passing the police but no-ones bothered about it so far. Id replace a rear plate though, its more blatant.

Leave him to it. It's a £30 fine for no plate, or £60 and three points for the scammers if you're 10% +2 over the posted limit.

I think we'll see a lot more of this

Maximum penalty of £1000 for failing to display. I suspect we'll see a few more of those for persistent offenders.

£1000, you sure about that? Just have to break it then, that must be the £30 job

Someone got 6 months jail for 'altering' his number plate with a bit of black tape recently.....

'Altering' plate is one thing, a bit like
'obscuring' it a bit, with an old rag.

It 'falling off' and not being there at all, is possibly the better way to go
