ANPR, speed cams and stealth film
Discussion
Anyone any experience with the infra red blocking/reflective stealth film from stealth plates please?
I’m asking because the amount of speed cameras being installed on the A roads in the north west has become ridiculous. The average speed ones on tall poles. It only takes a few seconds distraction and you will be caught for averaging over 30, not only would I get points/fine but would also be disciplined at work.
Which cameras does this film protect from? Is it just ANPR. Or any other types of cameras. I would have thought it would make sense for the camera designers to make them take pictures in the visible spectrum as well.

Authoritarianism is on the rise and gaining public acceptance. Covid lockdowns showed how easily the population can be manipulated. Dangerous times.dp707 said:
Also do the cameras pick up the type of vehicle and it’s individual restriction….e.g a medium van that should only do 50 on a national limit single carriageway
Yes
Vehicle classification (eg N1) is held on DVLA database. This is linked to the speed camera prosecution service.
Don't believe they have a method for detecting trailer towing which has lower limits. At least, not yet.

I heard on a podcast (collecting cars possibly?) this was the reason for people having those "4D" plates, it messed with the ANPR cameras somehow.
This is indeed correct. I've had mine on for a couple of years, so before the legislation changed & thus totally legal, but ANPR for car parks will NOT pick up my plates (this is annoying to be honest).I've never of course debated if this would be the same for Police ANPR cameras &/or speed cameras & i have no intention of trying the theory out, as i'm not what you'd describe as a lucky person

"Authoritarianism is when there are average speed cameras"Oh get a grip. Tell that to someone living in Russia or North Korea!

I reckon these things either don’t work - in which case you’re out of pocket, or do work - in which case you’re at risk of a conviction for perverting the course of justice (and be out of a job).
Cruise control or a lighter right foot are better options.
Yup Cruise control or a lighter right foot are better options.

If the limit is 30, stick to it. If the limit is 20, stick to it. Non-compliance will not be tolerated.
Got the message?

It may be the reason they're popular but it doesn't work. I'm an expert witness for telecoms so use ANPR (NAS, not the crappy parking eye and petrol station things) every day and I can assure you it actually makes it easier to see a VRM on ANPR if they're 4D, they're effectively highlighted in bold.
