Italy autostrada no ticket.
Discussion
I managed to enter the autostrada in Italy, I think through a telepass lane, as I was unable to take a ticket. I travelled a short distance and on trying to exit they tried to relieve me of 66 euro (the cost in the opposite direction was about 2). I wasn't happy to pay on my card there and then, so they issued a ticket and said pay at a service station within 15 days.
I read online that this can be appealed if you tell them where you entered the autostrada, so when back at my accommodation I had them email on my behalf. I heard nothing so I forwarded the email to another address found. A few days later I also sent copies of receipts for meals/parking in Verona, to prove I didn't travel the full length of the autostrada and did really enter at Verona.
Anyway I still haven't heard back, so I found an online portal where you can tell them where you really entered and pay the correct amount, or of course pay the full amount.
It appears it can't find my ticket number. Is it possible behind the scenes they have just cancelled it and not bothered to tell me? This happened last Thursday, so it is well over the 24/48 hours it mentions.

I got a similar ticket recently in Italy for far more than we should have paid because I had exited the autostrada already but was unable to explain this to the operator.
Got home and sent an email with all details.
Swiftly received a corrected bill and payment link for about 5 euros instead of 30-odd
Paid and can now feel relaxed about taking the same car back on their motorway system in the future.

Thanks everyone. This was in a hire car. The reception at my accommodation emailed a picture of my driving licence along with an explanation of what happened, so sadly they have my details (assuming someone has read the email). Thinking back I'm not sure why I let them do this. I still haven't heard anything via email and I can't pay the ticket on the portal. I just hope they don't try and charge the car hire company and cause them to charge me along with admin fees. I guess I'll just have to wait and see.

The hire car company would have sent them your details anyway!I received a reply from Info Autostrade//per l'Italia <info@contatti.autostrade.it> saying this has nothing to do with them. This lead me to find the A4 autostrada portal and the ticket does indeed show up. This is the same company my accom emailed, and I have emailed them a couple of times since (copying in the other one thinking they were the same). They have acknowledged receipt of emails but have not replied.
I'm really loathe to pay this, as it was genuine mistake, and I can prove I travelled from Verona to Desenzano and have sent them the receipts.

If you believe you're innocent and have sent them 'evidence'/mitigation then don't pay it and just move on. Wait until you hear something else and then decide.Gassing Station | Speed, Plod & the Law | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
