Accident, Partial Plate - Will Anyone Help?

My mother has had someone crash through her front wall - again

We have a partial plate

---3 AOY

The digit before the 3 is either a 2,3,6,8 or 0

We know it was a Tasman Blue Land Rover from the parts left behind

I can find the exact model by searching the part numbers

Will / can the Police or Insurers cross reference a partial plate to the model to find the owner ?

Just did a quick search and KR23AOY comes up as a possible. I'm sure there's more but the search takes ages.

The first two characters will not be Q or I and the first digit will not be 3 or 8, so that reduces your search to 1728 options!

Thanks, it could well be that car. I'll double check the part numbers to confirm the model

I was really questioning whether the police / insurers have the option to put in 'Land Rover' and 'blue' which I suspect will then reduce the numbers to one or maybe two as I don't expect anyone to go through all the combinations

DVLA shows that as a blue Land Rover....

It could also be possible to search local ANPR hits for a partial, or just anything blue at a certain time.

If details are wrong with DVLA or it's cloned then little to no help, but it's a start.

Do the parts suggest a modern vehicle? Such that a '23' plate seems most likely?

I searched '63' plates and there are no Blue Land Rovers.

Other combinations, unless a private plate, would be quite old as either an '03' or a prefix plate, so the nature of the parts left behind would help slim down the possibilities.

Blue defender is a current model and colour. Plenty available.

Yes, I realise that, but OP has not confirmed if the parts are from a current Defender.

I was there yesterday and thought I took pics of the parts but it seems I didn't

There are enough parts with intact part numbers that I can find the model from it IF the insurers / police will investigate further as I cannot state 100% that it is the vehicle

I suspect they were under the influence hence the drive off

Yes it's definitely a modern one and I know the colour is correct because it's printed on the panel that came off !

Almost certainly. Partial data searches combined with other attributes are simple for anyone with database access and a knowledge of SQL.

Having it as a user function is only marginally harder, and sounds like a fairly obvious use case for a vehicle database, especially for the police.

Sounds like half the front end could be there, in which case this is obviously a further offence if dangerously unroadworthy.

Did they also take any brickwork with them? Just to bump it up, "They have ram raided main wall causing significant damage and stolen bricks."

Five minute job for a Police PNC operator with the relevant accesses

How long has Tasman Blue been a colour for Land Rovers? If not long then that narrows your search to 23 plates as anything else will be too old. Very unlikely there will be many 23 AOY plated Tasman Blue Land Rovers out there.

Make the allegation to your insurer and see if they’ll deal with it for you. Easy enough for them to deny it and prove it if it isn’t them.

It seems that Tasman Blue was only available on the new Defender

The plate can only be a 23 for a new defender

And there is only one Land Rover on the Partial Plate site

It's a Blue Defender so I think that's a slam dunk
