Insurance renewal
Discussion
Bit of a weird query.
Was driving on the M6 tonight, moving back across the lanes after overtaking (under the speed limit), instinctively went all the way to the left lane before realising it was closed (Big red X above it you idiot), before moving back into the first open lane.
First, am I likely to receive a fine and points for this?
Secondly my car insurance renewal is due in 3 weeks and I was planning to renew it in the coming days, I’m assuming I should just renew as if I’m not getting the points, but then inform them if they come through the post at some point.
I should add it was in a hired works vehicle, so the points may take longer to come to me than if it was in my own vehicle.
Thanks all.

Depends whether there was a camera enforcing the closed lane at that location. If there was, and bearing in kind the ownership details of the van, a s.172 request may take a while to get to you..Leicester Loyal said:

You can't declare endorsements you haven't received. If you were to be penalised, check when your insurance company requires to be notified of such - more likely than not it'll be at renewal time, not mid-policy.

I think you would have been " unlucky " to get a ticket and that would even assume cameras were watching at that point.
Irrespective of that unless something physically received by your Insurance renewal date there is nothing to advise.
If after you have renewed then such a ticket arrives again you don't normally have to let Insurers know until the next renewal date although terms and conditions may say differently in your policy obviously.
