Requirements For Details Of Driver
Discussion
Good Morning All,
Looking for a little advice , I had a Requirements For Details Of Driver for come through today addressed to the MRS (i'm a named driver)
i had an accident 3 weeks back slow slow speed literally pulling away but scraped down the side of a defender , smashed my car to bits but nothing really on there old tank.
at the time we stopped about half a mile up the road where there was light , he moaned i tried to drive off as i had a chance to pull into the pub car park (dark) 200 metres before, this was not the case but anyway we pulled over and exchanged phone numbers only. He said he was an ex copper and looked at the damage, my hold door smashed and he said he has a bent bar at the back and that 80 quid cash would be the end of the matter or if i wanted to go throiugh insurance but he wasnt keen on that option , that was that
I called him once I had got home but no answer and send his 2 texts, one saying sorry i didnt stop in the pub which was the first opportunity I in hindsight should have pulle dinto but it was rush hour and busy and wanted a little bit of light were it was safer, and a second saying i would be happy to go through insuirance unless he was happy to leave it as it is.
since then heard nothing from him ans just had this letter come through , my car is fixed just needed a new door. but i am worried what possibly i could get done for? I did pull over and I did get his phone number becaus ehe called me off his phone first so i could save it.
Any help much appreciated

Realistically it’s not going to go anywhere but at this point you should comply and provide details as failing to do so may be an offence in itself.
Once that’s done then you will hopefully be contacted to give an account, possibly on an interview under caution but as long as your account is true I can’t imagine it would be prosecuted for anything

I assume the letter was sent to the registered keeper, it is important that they supply details of the driver, as requested. Then wait and see what happens, as already stated - probably nothing, but we can't see into the future.

Could it not be as simple as you didn't take his number down correctly? He therefore thinks you are ignoring him.since then heard nothing from him ans just had this letter come through , my car is fixed just needed a new door. but i am worried what possibly i could get done for? Of course, this would also mean he didn't take your number properly, which would be unlikely.

Yes went to the Mrs , will fill it out and put into my name Then wait and see what happens, as already stated - probably nothing, but we can't see into the future.
I am third party aswell but I am a named driver on her policy
I called them and gave the collision number, they said i have been re[ported to failing to give details , i typed my phone into his phone and then pressed call to make sure I had it , I have called and text since but no response
I am a massive worrier so this sort of things really get to me , especially as he said he was an ex cop , he did keep asking if the car was mine
No ideas for a name said:

Seems quite plausible given there has been no contact made on said number.
I physically typed my number into his phone and pressed call until it came though on my own so unless he has changed number this cannot be possible If the number is wrong which i cant see how it is , I assume liability falls with me ?

We had a similar experience to this for a “non-accident” my other half was involved in. As per above post, she received a NIP for the three charges, she sent her account of what happened and then she received a no further action letter. Whole process took 2-3 months.Chris

Who's 'them' and where did the collision number come from and who have you been reported to?Surely if you have a collision number you must have given the details to someone.
How strange - not sure what he hopes to gain by reporting you.
It would be a good idea to take screenshots of your call history showing the calls on the day and subsequently.
Good luck OP. Try not to worry too much - as others have said, these things tend to go away once a truthful account has been submitted.

Phone numbers isn't enough sadly.
You are both obligated to provide your full name and address and if anyone is injured, then insurance details as well.
If this isn't possible then the details of the accident need to be reported in person to a police station within 24 hours.
Although not doing this constitutes an offence, the Police likely won't pursue it further after the details have been provided.
It's possible the other driver will use your details after they obtain them from the police to attempt to sue you directly for the costs as it seems he is reluctant to let it go through his insurance.
I hope you reported it to your insurance company at least as it will get messy if you didn't and they suddenly need to get involved.
