Got caught and fined for not paying the dart charge in August the other day which I paid online only £2.50
I then got to thinking it took them 4 months to catch up with me.
I thought you had to be notified within 14 days or it's invalid.
I not worried about it or trying to claim money back just want to know if they were pulling a fast one?

Not sure if you paid online for £2.50 so the fine is an error, or whether the fine is £2.50.

14 days is NIP/police thing; this won't be police, merely a private company.

Not sure about the delay but you weren’t actually fined - first time offenders only have to pay the crossing fee so you just paid what you owed.

The first time rule is based on the reg of the car. I nearly always forget to add or change cars in my account so have had several letters over the years but only ever had to pay the missed crossing fee.

Probably one of the fairer organisations when it comes to things like that which is nice!

I liked the little box you stopped and dropped your money into. Simple and you can't forget.

For regular users always having the right amount of coins was a bit of a pain and the payment gates caused a lot of additional delays. It all flows much better now with them gone.

The worst thing was being trapped in a queue behind someone who had failed to read all the warnings about payment being coins only. You could be there for quite a long time in that situation.

For first time offenders, the payment is £2.50. I got caught and questioned why it was so low.

Even worse was a LHD vehicle.

Slightly OT, but I do like the existence of the free shuttle service.

Or the person started rummaging around and opening luggage in their cars boot for the money.

Honestly, I don’t miss the old system. The traffic is soo much faster now.

I’m sure that has been a free service for cyclists since the very first tunnel opened decades ago.

How does that work? Cyclists aren't allowed on motorways so do they pick them up at the nearest piece of non-motorway on each side?

The stretch of road spanning the crossing is officially the A282,

The depots on each side, is where the service starts.

Yeah, it's a bit weird, the A282 isn't even a special road, it's an all purpose road. However, cycling is prohibited both through the tunnels and over the bridge - or indeed on the North side at all.

But on the southern approach, cycling is actually allowed in places, which is kinda hilarious.

Going south over the bridge I agree. Seems much worse going north now

That’s because there’s effectively 4 lanes of heavy traffic ftom the 2 junctions just before the crossing trying to filter in to get through the tunnel. Coming back over the bridge there’s far less traffic trying to join so the existing 4 lanes just maintain their flow.

That and the multitude of traffic lights and gates that control the hazardous lorries. Whoever thought arrangement was a good idea was on some serious drugs at the time.

When you say 'person' we all know that 99% of the time it was one specific gender, but you are too much of a gentleman to say so.

Quite an odd thing to say
