30 sign, but repeaters are 20
Discussion
Entering a local village, there’s a 30 limit sign, as you’d expect, but the little repeaters are all 20. Entering from the other direction, the 30s have been replaced by large 20 limit signs.
I’ve asked the county highways on twitter, no response yet. It’s been like it for over a week now.
I wonder where you’d stand if pulled?

The pedantic on here will say 20 is the limit but surely you would have a strong defence?
Especially at night in crap weather. The village high street is narrow, parked cars etc, so it’s not fair on drivers at the very least. I’m local, so I knew about the limit change, and I’m the world’s most observant driver, so I’m ok

cant really answer your question but have seen a few things like this locally eg signs at the road side changed but paint on the road still says the old higher limit, or the limit signs have changed on entry to the new zone but repeaters are still old.
best guess different departments for different bits and poor organisation

This isn't in Wales? There has been a lot of messing/vandalism with 20mph signs in Wales since the limit reduction.
None around here, but Gwynedd Council got their exemptions about right.Something similarly confusing has been going on in a couple of the villages local to my work.
The speed limit when entering them is posted as 30mph, and the repeaters on lamp post are 30mph, but there is a limit of 20mph marked on the road surface and there are flashing warning signs with a sad face if you drive faster than 20mph.
It's been like this for a couple of months, so it can't just be a transitional period. The village I live in has had a blanket 20mph limit on all roads for more than a year now, as have the neighbouring three villages.
(This is in Leeds, not Wales).

Speed limits painted on the road have no legal basis, they are advisory only, so the limit, at the moment is 30 but be prepared for a changeThe speed limit when entering them is posted as 30mph, and the repeaters on lamp post are 30mph, but there is a limit of 20mph marked on the road surface and there are flashing warning signs with a sad face if you drive faster than 20mph.

There are several odd signages in S Wales.
One near Cardiff has both 20 and a 30 sign together on adjacent poles. Also mis matched repeaters and road painted signs insome places.
I recently did a run through pars of Powys, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire and my home county Carmarthenshire. There are differences in how exemptions have been applied. Carms has easily the most widespread 20 zones where the others in similar situations at 30 and even 40.
It appears Carms has not exercised exemption allowances where it could. This means more and extended 20 zones. It is causing longer journey times ( that 1 min only bull is bad stats used as an excuse by politicians). Local knowledge means people are creating new rat runs wherever possible whilst unavoidable zones cause delays, bunched up traffic and frustration. Buses miss scheduled times ( there’s talk of exempting them in bus lanes to do 30) . Yes, large vehicles near pedestrians doing 30 whilst others do 20 and pedestrians get confused.

These days an enforceable 20mph limit can be applied anywhere that other measures are in place to address vehicle speed. This was intended to mean speed humps, chicanes and physical things like that but has been broadened by "cash strapped councils" to include electronic speed indication signs and then broadened further so that big 20mph circles painted on the road are considered sufficient. The combination of 20 mph repeaters, electronic signs and 20 mph painted on the road is a slam dunk for the rozzers if you get zapped at 25 mph.

Workmen were out yesterday replacing vandalised signs somewhere between Wrexham and Llangollen, and I have heard grapevine suggestions that it is widespread in S Wales, but I agree with you about Gwynedd, and the other parts of North Wales I have been through recently. LImit has been applied sensibly.
They get vandalised as quickly as they can repair them in some parts right now. Gassing Station | Speed, Plod & the Law | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
