As per the title.

Caught accelerating out of 30mph into a 60mph on a country road near to where I live.

Looking at the guidelines 49 seems to be the max speed for a fpn so be 3points and fine.

Wrong, too fast for a course, but just inside FP threshold, expect £100 and 3 points

If the OP either elects to go to court or if they have nine or more points on their licence already that may be true. If not they are suitable for a FPN.

I won't be electing to go to court. I am however, rather angry at their methods of catching dangerous speeders.

I've viewed the supporting evidence online today and they have set up a camera 200m from the point at which the road goes from 30mph to NSL. Here basically, pointing up the hill. My speed is obviously determined just before the change.

In before the Righteous and Sanctimonious arrive with the 'you broke the law!'.

Annoying, but least only 3pts and the cash and nothing more.

Think of all the kittens and children saved though, phew-wee.

Unfortunately none of what you say makes any difference apart from to say that this positioning is so common that I am surprised you haven't seen similar before & made allowances.

Yes, I suppose to the letter of the law, it’s a “fair cop”. It would be great though if they used their precious resources to site these cameras at genuine accident black spots, or in areas where speeding is a problem, our local town centre for example. This just screams money grab to me.

Yes, forgive me if I gave you the impression I thought it made any difference. I’ve driven that piece of road for many many years, so perhaps familiarity is to blame.

Assuming that is a pejorative comment, it depends entirely on the location and conditions.

Yeah, to be fair it did surprise me. I’m making no excuses, but if you reference the image above, my speed only increased above the limit 50-75m before the NSL section. Nothing but an empty dry road with fields to each side of it. Out of context, 49mph in a 30 sounds horrific, and I’d be very ashamed of it.

Is the 30 limit properly signed?

Can't see any repeaters in that pic and no lamp posts - unless that pole on the left has a light on it?

It does.

FWIW, I’m in no way challenging it, I was breaking the speed limit. I do question the tactics, but that’s another discussion entirely.

I’m seeing this more and more recently, it appears that revenue must be down and they need to justify the vans? I use Waze all the time now, regardless of journey. It’s saved me from these cynical revenue traps numerous times.

I think it is also there to hopefully provide a bit noise relief to the adjacent home owner who no doubt gets every numpty in a car or on a bike hitting the rev limiter outside their house 24/7, 365 days a year.

And of all the nurses and teachers paid for. The country needs your money, and what softer easier target?

'Occupational hazard'.
