What is this sorcery?

50mph restriction and then suddenly 40mph with average speed cameras. I’ve never seen a stepped limit like this. I was mildly perturbed doing a GPS 50mph, then a vehicle passed and immediately braked in front of me, therefore sailed past at 50… until I clocked the 40 signs!

Anyone been through in daylight and can throw any light on whether this is enforced? Hoping to *not* receive a welcome home present!

There’s one that drops from 50 to 30 at Yeovilton on the A303 if you want a real laugh.

First time I went through was at night…

“st! when did that change? Has it been the whole way?”

Shock! Horror! Speed limits can change.

How do you manage when you go from a 60 into a small village?

Do you have to do an emergency stop?

If average speed cameras, then you would only get a NIP if you continued at 50 throughout the distance of the 40 mph limit?

Yep, I’d imagine so, although I’m not sure how far in we noticed the 40 signs.

I understand motorways have a mandated max step down of 20mph into temporary limits but still find it unusual to see a 50 then 40.

Bloody ecoGolf has no engine braking at all to speak of to drift down in speed too. Particularly in 6th. eek Give me back my auto Merc!

I am surprisingly ‘sensible’ at work particularly with speed related offences smile

Even when you’re writing someone with 6 points up for a 3 point ticket at a verified 99mph on a busy, wet motorway and they start demanding proof and arguing the toss. Even then.
