Asking for a friend. If an adult voluntarily attended a police station over 20 years ago, and had their fingerprints and DNA taken. But the charge was dropped, and they never went to court, are the fingerprints and DNA still held on file?

Were they actually formally arrested? if they were then AIUI the DNA records can be held forever

From a quick shufti online:

Can you ask the police to delete your DNA?
You can make a request to have a record deleted from the PNC together with associated fingerprints and DNA through the 'Record Deletion Process' which is outlined in guidance from the National Police Chiefs' Council (NPCC)

Sounds like they were not charged, rather than the charge was dropped.

It seems they attended court, just to confirm their name and address and enter a plea. Which was not guilty. And not long after, the case was dropped.

Which contradicts your earlier post - “they never went to court.”

That information came to light after my earlier post. Do you have anything worthwhile to add, relating to the fingerprint and DNA query?
