On the face of it bad form. We don't have access to the full mitigation or pre sentence report to understand the courts rationale, though. Prison is typical for that type of offending.

This is a funny one, caught speeding, tried to get brother to take points, sent paperwork back to NIP office, even on them asking to confirm due to being suspicious, likely because it was a female driver on pics, and it turns out that brother never had a licence, and later her partner was driving her car and took chase, so she reported it stolen.

It is comedy gold stuff.

However, she was diagnosed with Cushing's syndrome, a debilitating illness that led to her feeling suicidal. She then met her partner on a dating site in September 2021.
Likely why, got suspended sentence. Kind of understand the decision now.

The paper report says in respect of her having Cushing's syndrome:
"Judge Kate Rayfield told her that perverting the course of justice "strikes at the heart of the criminal justice system" and only in "exceptional circumstances" could a sentence be suspended. She said that in her case, she would suspend the sentence because of her debilitating condition."
So there's the answer.

Hmm, never heard of this syndrome

Symptoms of Cushing's syndrome

Symptoms of Cushing's syndrome can start suddenly or gradually. They tend to get slowly worse if not treated.

One of the main signs is weight gain and more body fat, such as:

increased fat on your chest and tummy, but slim arms and legs
a build-up of fat on the back of your neck and shoulders, known as a "buffalo hump"
a red, puffy, rounded face

Other symptoms include:

skin that bruises easily
large purple stretch marks
weakness in your upper arms and thighs
a reduced sex drive (low libido) and fertility problems
depression and mood swings
Cushing's syndrome can also cause high blood pressure, which can be serious if not treated.
Now I'm not a doctor, but that hardly sounds debilitating to me. (In a context of debilitating enough to meet an exceptional threshold of avoiding jail for a serious crime)

A good chunk of that could just be classed as "not getting any younger".

And if red puffy face and mood swings are a symptom, I think a fair chunk of posters on np&e should be getting checked out for it.... smile

Those are symptoms of the untreated condition. A journal paper says:

"Untreated Cushing’s disease (CD) is associated with a very poor prognosis, estimated 5 years’ survival of 50%, though this is dramatically improved to 86% after bilateral adrenalectomy."

Which sounds pretty unpleasant to me, and doubtless was reported as such in expert evidence.

Unless you're in charge of the Post Office obviously, in which case you get patted on the head and given a medal. rolleyes
