Can anyone recommend a solicitor / firm in NW Bristol who can deal with writing a couple’s wills?

Prepared to pay a slight premium for someone good but don’t want to pay silly money… prefer the family solicitor approach - but our family solicitors are quite a way away geographically…

Wills should be relatively straight forward but will leave wealth to nephews and nieces of various ages so will need to consider how that will work (no offspring)

Thanks!

No matter who you want to leave it to doesn't complicate anything, it is just a boggo will really.

Mine & Mrs E's are mirorred & include a Nephew as she has no children & multiple executors etc. £200 bish, bash, bosh.

Could you not do a zoom type call with your own solicitors and take it from there ?

I would hope so, but there may be one or two complications depending on parental estates...
would still prefer to be confident I have someone good

yes, that is an option, but having relocated to Bristol I would prefer to find someone local I can use when necessary...

You could try Lyons Law in Kingswood, they put together a draft will for me but it was a bit more than bish, bash, bosh for £200.

Consider who you are putting as your executors it can simplify the ultimate execution if the solicitor is near the executor.

Interesting thought… why would the solicitor be involved after writing the will? (I wouldn’t include them as executors - there are enough people in the family who could do the job)

It’s just if there are property sales involved, where is original will to be kept etc. just doing probate for my brother in law found original will was with solicitors in Cardiff, he lived in Cheshire. In order to process probate you need to file the original, undamaged copy of the will.

Ahh thanks that makes sense, we will probably keep the will here but we also have a lot of local family which will include one of the executors…

FYI you are looking for a private client solicitor, not a family solicitor.

We've used these guys for many legal tasks, the most recent being a full review and update of our Wills (that weren't straightforward).

We were very pleased with the knowledge, understanding, advice and conclusion - and I'm therefore happy to recommend - https://fsmsolicitors.co.uk/

thank you all - some leads to follow up...

will have a look at private client solicitors - I think that is probably a more accurate current term - I guess I have always thought of them as 'family solicitors' in the old-fashioned sense of serving a family whereas now that would reflect a practice specialising in family law / divorce / mediation / children etc...
