I was given wrong directions and found myself in a large Airport Car Park riddled with ANPR Cameras.

Stressed out and reached for the Mobile as it kept ringing and switched it off. Then realised my mistake.I was in a delivery van and my action I think would be hard to identify(it was in my lap and not visible).

How much trouble might I be in please??Does ANPR capture live video or just stills of number plates??.Would this constitute using a mobile phone if the camera caught it??Are Airports Private Land or National Highways??Do the Airport based Cameras have the technology to record my foolishness??Are the cameras likely to be manned at all times and would they be looking for this type of thing.

DO I NEED TO BUY SOME BICYCLE CLIPS??

Your opinions would be appreciated especially if they are...."Dont Worry You Will be Fine!!"

Sorry mate, there are new cameras all over these carparks and can even identify a tyre with less than 1.6mm of tread left. Expect a minimum of 12 points on your license, a fine of 150% of you weekly income and 250 hours community service.

FTFY wink

Don't worry, when you're in Pentonville we'll send you a cake with a file in it.

I am currently wearing DFT approved slippers with up-to-date safety certificate and insurance, and my next Slipper Wearing Training Refresher Course is booked for July.

Thank You Simpo

ANPR is NOT used to track people who are not wearing seat belts, using a
mobile phone nor are they speed cameras. You will not receive any traffic related
tickets as a result of ANPR.

Above is Policy from Leicestershire Police.....trouble is I'm not in Leicester....close tho

Whenever I have watched Police Interceptors I have never seen ANPR be responsible for anything mobile phone related.
That seems to be the role of the observing Police Officer.
Add the fact you were in a car park and I’m guessing you will be fine.
Or change your name to Katie Price as that seems to make you immune from serious prosecution.

I would be astonished if a car park paid for anything more than the ability to catch non payers. Or cared if they happened to see anything else.

I am a long distance same day courier also with three chaps in vans working for me we deliver all over Europe

One of the services we provide is Aircraft On The Ground Service where we do express deliveries for aircraft parts.
Ironically these deliveries only ever go to airports !

I am always on the dog and bone at the airports they dont care
You could get a way with shaggin a sheep in the car park they wont do nothing
but over stay your car park slot they will bankrupt you

To commit the mobile phone offence you need to be on a 'road' not just a public place such as a car park. Large car parks may have access that could be defined as a 'road'.

Has anyone ever been prosecuted for using a mobile phone in a car park?

if a militant cyclist was within half a mile, you will receive a NIP before you even get home and your insurance will go up for 3/ 5/10 years (delete as applicable according to how hurt their feelings are.

This reminds me of when I had to take a (genuinely extremely important) call in the holding car park for the Woolwich Ferry (northbound). I was in my old MX-5 without Bluetooth so, God forbid, I ended up holding the phone on speaker while I was telling the guy at the other end to hold on 30 seconds while I drove onto the ferry. Yes, I know I was in the wrong.

Ferry controller started yelling at me that the whole area was covered by ANPR and to expect an NIP in the post and 5 years in gaol. I was rather stressed about the content of the phone call and took this to heart. 14 days of paranoia about the postman knocking.

Never heard anything.

OP I'd be more worried about a fine for not paying for parking.

Anpr cameras automatically recognize number plates. They do this by looking at the numbers on the plates and recognizing them automatically.

Watch out, some now read the letters too.

Probably time we stopped calling them number plates... "Glyph plates" would be more accurate.
