Zac Goldsmith - What on Earth!
Discussion
My Giddy Aunt! What on earth is this world coming too? there is so much wrong in this world but this warrants the police and the courts attention £££££....
Former environment minister Zac Goldsmith has been banned from driving for a year after he was caught speeding seven times in 2023.
The Conservative peer, 49, broke speed limits in his hybrid electric Volkswagen Golf on London roads in Paddington, Chelsea and Twickenham between April and November last year.
Goldsmith was caught driving at 29mph in a 20mph zone on Chelsea Embankment
In July he drove at 28mph in a 20mph zone near Kensington Gardens.
In May, August and November of the same year, he broke the 40mph limit on the A316 in Twickenham by twice driving at 46mph and once at 47mph.
He was also caught driving at 62mph in a 50mph zone at the M25 intersection with the M3 in December, and at 73mph between junctions 20 and 19 of the M4 in September - breaking a 50mph temporary speed limit.
As District Judge Daniel Sternberg disqualified the Tory environmentalist from driving, he warned that drivers who speed "emit more harmful emissions" even in hybrid and electric cars.
He was also fined £5,500, and ordered to pay a surcharge of £2,000 and costs of £700.

I expect a judge to have clearer thinking than that. What makes more emissions - 40mph in fourth gear or 20mph in third gear? And if we apply District Judge Daniel Sternberg's logic, hybrid and electric cars should be allowed to go faster than IC ones.

Well if it could happen to any c..t, glad it's him or any other mug that gets close to shaping policy.
But it highlights the utter ridiculous issue with 20mph. Its a push to get us all on the bus and little else. It's working though, unfortunately.
It’s not just 20 limit offences here, if he had stuck to these two it wouldn’t be newsworthy. Presumably he exceeded his 12 points and the 73 in a 50 is not great…But it highlights the utter ridiculous issue with 20mph. Its a push to get us all on the bus and little else. Anyone who manages this tally is clearly driving without paying attention, so not a lot of sympathy from me.
Not sure what the issue is here. Guy gets caught speeding lots of times, ends up with a ban.

tbh, I'm not sure what the OP's point is here?
If its whether this should be in court, of course it warrants police/court attention. Seven speeding violations is definitely totting territory and a poss ban dictates a court appearance.
If its the relatively small over limit of most of the violations, the speeds were clearly over whatever 'free' excess the local constabulary allow.
If its the low speed limits themselves, neither the police or courts decide those.
I suspect the means based fine & surcharge, plus costs, actually covered the expense of dealing with all these.
So, what's the issue, OP?

You've heard of the 10% + 2 thing, right? 26 in a 20 exceeds this. So no excuse, no sympathy (especially as the guy clearly has form for not paying attention, lacking any self control etc).

just strengthens the sourness he must feel having passed up his opportunity to fight against 20 limits he so clearly finds inadequate.
