Hi guys,

Was on way home from work today and I was about to turn right and then there was a bike heading straight on with a guy on a motorbike without a helmet doing wheelies down the road came out of nowhere but we veered towards each other and he last minute had to turn away, there was no contact and he was a solid metre away. Should I have stopped? He seemed to have just gone flying down the road.

Yes and then chased after him to give him a piece of your mind!

It's becoming more common. Often unregistered electric motorbikes (Surron or similar). Not much you can do as there in no VRN and the riders usually cover their faces.

If he'd been wearing a helmet and not doing wheelies, should you have stopped ?

Other vehicles don't "come out of nowhere", you just weren't looking properly.

I don't know if I'd even try and get out of the way, they are feral scum and are going to come off worse in a collision with my old stter.

No harm done. Annoying as if you had hit him and killed him you would have had a load of hassle and worry.

Just move on. You need eyes on stalks to drive now

Should you have stopped?

No.

You should have accelerated and steered towards him and done society a favour.

Saw around 20 Sur Ron type unregistered, uninsured electric bikes going down a main road in Oldham a month ago, no helmets, balaclavas on, or scarves up to their eyes.

I rang the Police and they said "Oh right" and put the phone down,

This was the type of bike I saw - definitely looked electric by its slimline stance.

Annoying as I try to drive defensive at all times, but this guy was super hard to spot and was so far up the arse of the car in front, just thankful there was no contact between us.

I will do some research later but I was defo under impression you only need to stop if an accident is caused?

None of those are electric bikes. Well, certainly not most of them

Obviously you were there and know.
tell me what time it was? It could have been dusk/dark.

I have had both petrol scramblers and suron type bikes undertake me on a roundabout in the dark.
They have no lights so are almost invisible until very close.

Also riders prefer black clothing to match their balaclava

Research for what? As already stated there was no contact and no accident, so no obligation to stop for anything

I was thinking exactly that. Obviously to some a ‘Sur Ron type’ bike is something dirt orientated. rofl

I reported a stolen/abandoned car to the local Plod about two weeks ago; they sounded slightly interested and gave me a crime number. And yet the car is still there, not even a 'Police Aware' sticker on it. By contrast if I do 79 in a 70, whammo. Perhaps I should try being unregistered and uninsured with a scarf over my face...

Why did you "veer" towards him? Were you trying to knock him off the road and you missed?

If you had stopped, what would you have done? Taken a deep breath, and then headed home? So, no - you shouldn't have stopped. But, you knew that anyway.
