Do they attempt to capture your Rear Number Plate (As I suspect ) or the Front Number Plate...asking for a friend. They seem to be in a position to do one ot the other??

Some do front, others do rear.
They seem to prefer rear as they can then do motorbikes.

What road are they on?
Check out the road on Google maps, you can see whether the cameras point at the front or rear.

Hold on, do Hadec cameras do average speed?

I think Hadec are fixed (spot speed) cameras (not average), and the ones I've seen photo the rear.

Easy to see which way they are facing as you approach them.

If they are on a 2 lane road (ie one in each direction), they are set to cover the full width, to prevent drivers taking to the opposite carriageway as a means to avoid detection.

I realise the Highways Agency is responsibe for the upkeep of the major road network, but didn't know they were resposible for speeding enforcement - Motorways yes , but A roads ?

The motorway ones are still enforcement wise handled by the local constabulary. HA just manage and maintain them, tolerances / enforcement thresholds are all set by said local constabulary.

The NIP will come from roads policing or equivalent for area.

Thanks for that I realise the enforcement aspect is down to the Police, I was just a bit surprised that they were responsible for looking after/supplying the non- motorway stuff

Ok ...lets drop the Hadec word from the thread.Apologies.

What is the name for these little yellow cameras that can detect your speed by how far you have travelled...and at the same time identify your number plate.

The futures bright....the future is yellow ??

I don't know what the official name for them is, but the ones you are talking about on that stretch of road capture the rear of the vehicle.

Are you allowed to refer to two PH posters as "camps" these days?

Has anyone ever seen a headline such as 'MD of speed camera company gets done for speeding'? It would be a splendid petard/hoist moment.

Not exactly a headline, and not really petard/hoist, but famously:
