Short story

Bought a lovely Mk7.5 Golf R from a VW dealer and got it home at around 2pm yesterday.

Was stolen from our house at approximately 2pm this morning after the theives smashed through the rear house door and stole both the keys. And my jacket.

Police and forensics attended and surprisingly the 5-0 seem to think we've got a decent chance of getting it back today or tomorrow.

When would I claim, shall I inform straight away or wait a day?

I'm not trying to avoid claiming but I don't want to fall foul of any rule.

Thanks

What does your insurance policy say regarding theft?

I’d put the claim in straight away. They might ask questions if you delay putting a claim in especially if it was stolen a mere 12 hours after you bought it.

Also even if it was recovered, there might be damage or they may have stripped some of the more valuable parts that you might want to claim for.

Impressed that the police are that confident but I’d still be contacting my Insurers now.
If they do manage to return it tomorrow unbroken and in the same condition as when they stole it you can cancel the claim as such.

Claim now but they won't consider it lost for as I recall 6 weeks.

They sadly found mine damaged after 5 and a half weeks

I would notify them ASAP, because otherwise any 3rd party claim against the car may be your problem?
Also even if you get it back, it may have issues.

I'd report it ASAP - gives the insurer one less reason to be awkward!

Stolen in just 12 hours ? That's either very bad luck or somebody knew it was on its way. The Police seem very confident it'll be found, too confident to be honest. Maybe it's a bait car but my bet is either on someone's been monitoring your social media or more likely the Dealership has been compromised.

Yep 12 hours

No pics on social media at all, nobody knew I was getting it other than me, the guy I went to pick it up with, and my wife. I thought about the bent dealership angle but they were in another city and a franchised dealer so unlikely I think.

I didn't realise on the 5/6 weeks wait but seems logical I suppose. I rang tonight but they were closed so I'll ring in the morning.

they said it was possible given the car had just got there that it was an opportunistic theft and therefore joyriders, who knows though?

OP didn't you hear them "smashing" their way into your house and rifling through all your belongings looking for the keys to the car?

Why don’t you just straight out accuse them of being involved in the theft somehow?

I was involved with a Lexus dealership who had a bent employee, so don't assume anything

Go on which city did you get it from?

100% don't believe any such thing, all it takes is one bad apple in the dealership or someone watching from an adjacent address, then following when you pulled out.

For it to be so quick I would be EXTREMELY suspicious.

The 5/6 week thing is not correct. My Discovery was stolen recently and I was paid out within 10 days.

Having been a victim of a similar break in, depending on how they enter you don't hear anything. Heck I didn't even hear my RS6 fire up! The neighbours did though ha
