I was going to collect my brother from the airport when I got a single flash from a camera.

I thought motorways had average speed cameras and don't flash, these that do flash, do so twice.

So anyone explain? Tried looking ot up not really got an answer.

Some flash once, some flash twice, some don't flash.

You will know within the next 2 weeks if you have been caught.

Was it facing you? Some of the older Gatsos flash once if oncoming vehicles are exceeding the speed limit, but there are no tickets issued.

There are websites that can tell you what sort of camera was at the location you were flashed. Maybe. How up to date they are I do not know.

Motorway enforcement today is almost exclusively covered by HADECS3 gantry cameras which flash and Siemens average speed ones which don't, Gatso overhead gantry cameras are now reduntant almost eveywhere

Anyone know which type of camera this is? A14 junction 15. Always been curious how it worked as it seems to face towards the traffic?

Does it flash oncoming traffic? I thought that wasn't allowed?

Oncoming and receding.
Why would you think flashing oncoming wasn’t allowed. It works just fine.

Not a great idea flashing a bright light into the eyes of someone driving though. On the opposite carriageway is distracting as it is

It has no effect at all.
The light is filtered and the flash pulse so short your eyes don’t react.
The “idea” was worked through very thoroughly. It works if you look at the total lack of impact upon the hazard you profess.

I've never encountered a forward flashing camera personally. I've only ever seen them on the opposite carriageway, which beyond the momentary distraction, isn't an issue.

I've seen it happen to a van I was following before (who I'd flashed to point out the very obvious camera but some people can't be helped) - it's a purpley flash that isn't a problem at all.

They are also well off the line of your field of view, so not really a problem.
