Just had a penalty notice from Heathrow. Am 99% sure put correct details in.
Real Reg is XXXX NGG
Fine came throu for
"Reg XXXX MGG has not paid"
Ok - possible I hit wrong key, but when I try to put in XXXX MGG into the website I get an error message that "vehicle does not exist, check not put a 1 for I" etc
Naturally XXXX NGG brings up my car details, but the recipt shows reg ending MGG?
Any one had this issue or luck challenging it?

Thing that is confusing- you can't enter the incorrect reg in the website, as it says it's wrong / no vehicle found - please check you entered it correctly!
I am reasonably certain there now is an agreed code of conduct * which says a clear typing error should be overlooked. Pointing out that, showing how it is clear what the error was and you having a receipt should (should) have them withdraw the penalty.
Typing one letter or number incorrectly

Writing a zero instead of an "o"
The BPA expects parking operators to identify these mistakes before issuing a Parking Charge Notice (PCN).
For major errors, the BPA says that fines will be reduced to a maximum of £20 if paid within 14 days. Major errors include:
Providing the wrong registration details completely
Only entering the first part of the number plate
Typing more than one letter or number incorrectly
The BPA Code of Practice also states that:
A grace period of at least 10 minutes must be added to the end of a parking event before a PCN can be issued
Motorists, car park operators, service providers, and equipment manufacturers all have a responsibility to ensure that obvious and inadvertent errors do not lead to unjustified charges
If you're issued a PCN for a minor keying error, you can appeal it. If it's an IPC member, you can make an appeal through the Independent Appeals

I have appealled two PCN's from the Heathrow drop off, both in 2022. Both were sent due to forgetting to pay within the required time.
I found out through (then) Pepipoo that there is a bit of a loophole which has been used to have the tickets cancelled. I wrote the following which I used for both appeals:
To whom this concerns,
I, the registered keeper, have received the parking charge notice (REF HERE) dated (DATE HERE).
Unfortunately, as this land is subject to byelaws, schedule 4 of the Protection of Freedoms Act 2012 (POFA 2012) is not applicable. Therefore, liability cannot be transferred from the driver to the registered keeper. There is no legal requirement to name the driver and I will not be doing so.
Furthermore, if POFA 2012 did apply, you have failed to comply with schedule 4 of POFA 2012. Namely, but not limited to, giving notice of keeper liability in the format prescribed by section 9 (2) (f) of POFA 2012.
I do not expect to hear from you, or any parties acting on your behalf (e.g. debt collectors), again. The exception to this is to confirm that no further action will be taken. I also request that my details be removed from your records.

I was wondering the same.The fine was sent to the correct address for the correct registration...
Wrong reg was somehow entered for payment, even though when I tried to enter that same incorrect registration now, it comes back with "vehicle not found" : /
I have made mistakes at Heathrow drop off three times and contacting them and explaining the error resulted in them cancelling the fine. Once putting in the registration of the wrong car entirely (though both ours). Once going into drop area twice within 10 minutes as I couldn't stop anywhere the first time and thirdly, going into the parking by accident. I'm sure there are plenty of people that choose not to pay but they seem (to me) to understand that some people do make mistakes, especially with tech.....

Because the owners correctly realised that it was an as-yet-unfleeced aspect of the already hostile airport experience.

missing the obvious here, why do both Gatwick and Heathrow the major Uk hubs not have a free 5 minute / 10 minute drop off facility anymore? we need to get stitched for 6 quid to spend 2 minutes dropping someone off?
