I've seen a few news reports where the sex perp has got pretty light sentences for serious crimes. Has something changed?

https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cq6ljzzlle6o.amp

"In October, driving instructor Michael Florek, 64, from Gloucestershire, was found guilty of sexually assaulting five of his students during lessons.

He was given a suspended prison sentence and banned from the profession for 10 years."

5 sexual assaults in a position of trust, and pretty much gets off..

A 10 year ban from his source of livelihood is hardly getting off. Although he won’t be ‘getting off’ in his car any more.

Swindon double rapist, imported, 6 years, out in 3. Sentences getting longer? You're having a laugh.
Labour letting them out early.

When the riots cases were going on there was an unprecedented movement by stalimer to dictate to the courts what they should do, which is totally against all rules.

A quick Google shows this case, driving instructor, 1 sex assault and Voyeurism, 8 months inside

Wouldn't suprise me if labour had issued secret guidelines to judges as they have been letting rapists out to fill them up with people who said bad things in twitter .

Not sure I understand. I've given you the facts. Sentences are getting longer. Here's another link, showing how the average sentence has almost doubled since 2000:
https://www.statista.com/statistics/1100628/prison...

The only reason we're having to let them out slightly earlier is that prisons are full... because sentences are getting longer, and we're not building more prisons. Why otherwise would they be so full, given that crime is at the lowest level its ever been:

Sexual assault can mean anything from stroking someone's leg to basically - or even worse than - rape. Without knowing the details of the offences it's impossible to know if that's an abberation or in line with sentencing guidelines.

Not only are sex crimes getting far longer sentences now, historical ones are being taken much more seriously and it's one of the reasons behind our prison crisis - we made the laws harsher and toughened up enforcement but didn't bother building more prisons. Leading to letting them out. Which is moronic.

That's the thing. You see the term 'sexual assault' and think 'rape'. Perhaps things would be clearer with new categories, eg 'leg touching' - which might be swiftly redressed by a slap from the recipient, not jail.

It might possibly be a bit difficult to slap someone when you are learning to drive a car.

Sentencing guidelines to judges are published for everyone to read if they wish.

The issue here, as said, is that sexual assault varies dramatically in level of severity and it is that which impacts the sentence

To answer the OP, the sexual assault sentencing guideline has been in place since 2014.

Going off the scant information in the article, it would seem to me that the starting point may have been category A3 with some aggravating factors (multiple victims, unwanted sexual comments made) which would take a starting point of 6 months and bring it up to 14. Then the judge considers everything in the round and decides whether immediate custody or whether the sentence can be suspended (in this case deciding that it was, and throwing in some community service for good measure) as well as 10 years on the register. Without knowing many of the facts it looks like a pretty standard sentencing exercise.

But hey, "Labour giving secret orders to judges" sounds more fun

problem is he is ruling through courts, deciding which crimes deserve punishment and which don't. he is clearly someone who is used to not listening to others, this can become very dangerous, and lying.

''Some serious sexual offenders and other violent criminals will be released under Labour’s prisoner early release scheme despite government assurances that serious crimes would be excluded from the policy, Channel 4 News understands. ''

Although absolute claptrap I thought you would like that since you view Russia as the best place to emigrate to?

Not my words

How Keir Starmer plans to rule through the courts

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c2kjdjylnqyo

Rioters can expect rapid sentencing, says Starmer

''Starmer’s order to the judiciary to accelerate the prosecution and conviction of the rioters has passed without much comment, probably because it’s easy to think that fascist, racist thugs deserve whatever comes to them – but even in cases of such terrorism the legal process must be allowed to take its due course without interference or even undue pressure from political figures.''

nothing to do with this topic, just seems like you don't like the subject so attack a post I made months ago, and not sure how i support Russia. (i'm a hiker i like mountains there btw)

Maybe educate yourself better rather than resorting to the lowest form of strawman arguments.

Whats you comment on the subject, all lies?

I think you are just on a Grr Labour rant. I bet you weren’t so concerned when the government were involved in court handling of rioters in 2011 as it was a conservative government.

I also notice you don’t pass any comment on why there is early release in the first place.

In any case as others noted, no sentences aren’t getting lighter so the whole OP has been resolved. HTH.
