A few days ago i was picking up my son from work in my usual spot, the bus stop outside the train station in Sittingbourne in Kent. There was an ambulance in the bus stop so i made sure there was plenty of room behind the ambulance for the ramp to come down when a police officer approached me and told me to move on to avoid getting 3 points and a £100 fine.Anybody else ever had this as in 50 years of driving i have never come across it.

If it is this bus stop, then no double yellows or other obvious restrictions:

Rule 243
DO NOT stop or park:

near a school entrance
anywhere you would prevent access for Emergency Services
at or near a bus or tram stop or taxi rank

Police officer was wrong, you could get a council parking fine but not points but even then the bus stop has to have correct markings and signage for any fine to be enforcable

Other than the bus stop box on the road and the no stopping sign on the pole?

You’ve been driving for 50 years and thought it was OK to wait in a bus stop?

The ociffer is just putting the frightners on you for parking like a tw*t. Unless of course you were parked dangerously or near a crossing on zig zags, but simply in a bus stop is not going to get you a FP and 3 points

That is obviously a clearway, and has a sign that tells you that it is for local busses only.

You can receive points for blocking a clearway.

Could be going mad in my old age but whilst i can see plenty of no entry signs and even some double yellow lines which i had never noticed(it is usually dark when i pick him up) but can't see any no stopping signs. We usally manage to time it so that i don't have to wait so maybe i have just been lucky so far.

That's the taxi rank outside the station which is its own road separate from the road that the bus stop is on but i will hold my hands up to this one as i usually try not to stop at the bus shelter so have never noticed the no stopping sign and it is a long time since i have read the highway code so perhaps a bit of revision is needed.

Just to clarify...Is your question relating to the nature of the penalty or to whether you are allowed to wait there?

It pisses bus drivers off, and when I am a bus passenger it pisses me off too.
