Armed French police in London
Discussion
I passed through St Pancs the other day and a boring thought came up.
The French police who check passports are all armed. What’s the rules about if they had to use them? Surly they must have a law that says they must be ok to use them if needed? Are they only allowed to stay in the windowless room until the Eurostar home? I’m guessing that some must stay over night nearby for the early morning trains, so would they use a police station nearby for storage?
What happens if a madman is just outside the security and one of them runs out to help? I’d rather they stopped a madman than have to think about the consequences.
Must be the same in Dover? Maybe the question is do they need to be armed?

This document seems to cover it, they’re pretty limited on where they can carry them

Do French border control in the airports carry weapons - I don't remember seeing HMBF doing so but in a lot of Europe they do. Eurostar also has security checks, so you'd think passengers won't have weapons, but I can't remember if security is before or after the border.phil y said:

So the officers have to travel all the way to Waterloo to store their service weapons? Hopefully it was amended so that they could be stored at St Pancras. And who was this Nicholas Sarkozy chap? Some imposter pretending to be Nicolas Sarkozy? This document seems to cover it, they’re pretty limited on where they can carry them

At The French Consulate, two Range Rovers full of French chaps are armed with handguns.
Not saying you're wrong in the slightest, but I was under the impression the only foreign police allowed to carry firearms in the UK were the Americans and Israelis when their head of state is here.I could be completely wrong, of course, so happy to be corrected.

The presence of armed French police officers at locations such as St Pancras International Station in London is a result of the juxtaposed controls agreement between the United Kingdom and France.
French Border Police officers operating within these control zones are permitted to carry firearms and have the authority to arrest and detain individuals within the designated immigration control areas. Their jurisdiction and the use of firearms are confined to these specific zones.
In the event of an incident occurring outside the established control zone, French officers would not have the authority to intervene directly.
