I just stumbled on this one. Is that word really so offensive?

Did the sticker literally say C**T or the whole word spelled out?

If the latter then she’s a bit stupid because that’s asking for trouble.

I’d assume that she used the whole word.

I wonder if she was given the option to just remove it?

That’s the standard course of action from a police officer if it’s dealt with on the spot, but if it was reported by way of photos etc then that’s not possible.

It’s blindingly obvious that a visible sticker with the full word on it will cause offence to some people that are likely to see it so what did they expect?

If you walk down a high street with a T Shirt on a Saturday afternoon with the same slogan it would be right for the police to deal with it.

yes Stupid is as stupid does.

They clearly went out of their way to offend people thinking they were safe within their bubble from harm in return.

Well tough st lady, in the real world there are often consequences to doing things in person that you wouldn’t have suffered from the safety of your keyboard.

Maybe she should’ve taken some advice from her sticker.

A request which could be cheerfully ignored by all, if there were no threat of further action. As there's no fixed penalty for bumper stickers, court is the only route for due process.

It's ostensibly a waste of time, but the alternative is not being able to enforce laws.

Indeed, but if she doesn't remove it though what do you do next? Agree it's not a great use of the court's time, but just letting people do what's they can well like if they don't stop when asked nicely isn't a great principle either.

Magistrates courts so have a long and proud history of deciding which words are offensive and which aren't.

(Amusingly the link won't work because the forum software censored it - Google "Never Mind The bks court case).

Best not go in a Scribbler card shop then. The word is liberally spread all over cards, socks etc!

Of course the word is offensive. Would you just wave it off if your Primary school aged child came home to tell you that instead of addressing the class with ‘right class, we’re going to do some reading’ the teacher said ‘right s, we’re going to do some reading’? Or perhaps your wife’s shopping, gets to the till and instead of the operator saying ‘that’ll be £10 please madam’, they say ‘’that’ll be £10 please ’. I doubt many people would find it acceptable to hear children spewing the C-word all over conversations, or adults liberally using it in front of children.

How things have changed.

I remember the Virgin record shop in Nottingham getting in hot water (and court) over having the Sex Pistol's LP in the shop window.

But you can say that about most things? (tattoos, smoking, driving a BMW etc) hehe
