I joined a new gym last week, one of the 24/7 types, located in a mixed use retail park. While I now appreciate it was naive, I didn't check the parking signs when I arrived because I assumed they'd be the standard 2-hour stay types and my workouts are never that long.

During my session this morning I noticed people coming in were going to an iPad located to the side of the entrance door and doing something on the screen. I assumed at first it was to sign up for classes and then when I moved closer realised they were logging their number plates. I thought little of it and assumed the screen was there for staff who are in the gym all day and would exceed the two-hour limit but that everyone was doing it just "in case". On my way out I also logged my plate "just in case" and then looked for a sign once I was in the car park to double-check the conditions...

Well, fk me. Apparently yes, it's a 3-hour stay but only after 7am. Not great for someone (me) who likes to arrive at the gym for 6am and get finished before it's busier.

The gym website says "free parking"

But then, further down, a little disclaimer to wriggle out of any liability.

So as I sit here now, waiting for my three £60 charges for my sessions last week to drop on the door mat... Do I have any hope in hell or leg to stand on if they do arrive?

I very much assume, legally, not but if anyone's had good luck from either PureGym or Euro Carparks now would be a lovely time to share it. There's no denying I was there, parked in contravention of the rules, and very much should have read them first... but I'll probably drop a line to the gym manager anyway and just ask them to make the signage inside the gym clearer to point out the little iPad thing as it's very easy to miss/not realise it's essential.

Maybe rather than wait for the post you could be proactive & contact puregym and tell them what you've done and ask them if they'll update their database and/or inform eurocarparks that you were at the gym at the specified times?

The best bet is that you ask the gym to tell the parking company you were at the gym, and to please cancel them.

I suspect this restriction is simply there to stop the car cruisers from using the carpark.
