Not me I hasten to add. One of our sales reps got this letter today. He'd already told me he'd been pulled over but during the conversation the officer had pointed out he was doing 90mph and that he should expect something in the post.

He wasn't expecting this;

My advice was to speak to the likes of AGT on here who will more than likely request the evidence as part of their preparation for court and that this bit was pretty unavoidable. I said he's looking at 6 points or short 28-56 day ban but on the off chance they have made a mistake it'll all come out in the wash.

So far I've left it at advising he waits for the court paperwork and take it from there but I think he's on a hiding to nothing, even if they officer has made a mistake.

Fully aware he may be spinning a tale as to the speed but I wouldn't suspect this from what I know of him.

"the bloody M6 toll was totally clear" is not a defence which I've already pointed out.

Do you actually have a question?

He's been distracted by this all day, I probably should have asked a bit more about process if he's convinced he was cautioned at the roadside and told he was doing 90mph only for this to drop through the letterbox saying he was doing 100mph. My opinion was sure he could go back and ask for evidence but that a 'calibrated speedo' would be all they needed to quote despite what has been given to him verbally.

It appears that the sender of the letter did not know what the speed limit was in the non-bold section?

I think this is often left blank. Above that, it states the 70mph motorway limit.

Any chance the sales rep fabricated the conversation with the police officer to soften the blow / reduce the potential bking?

Depends on the actual speed detected? We only have the perps version.

Or maybe the 'we had to do 100mph before apprehending him/her'

Oh yeah, every chance, I’m not stupid.

He’s lucky that 6 points/short ban won’t cost him his job, I do have limited sympathy for him, we’ve all been young and stupid.

See what happens when further paperwork comes through.

It also has unmarked police cars.

I had a land manager some years ago in the same position as the OP’s rep. He was banned but hired himself a driver so he didn’t lose his job.

I also had a little sympathy, like most petrolheads I have got carried away too.

I know a lot of our courts are in a terrible state, but I would have hoped they'd at least still demand of attendees that they park up before their appearances biggrin

It is apparent that a lot of its users think not.

It was nice to see him acting a bit contrite tbh, he’s 22, good at his job but has the swagger that suggests he thinks he knows it all.

Add in a 320d company car and you get the idea. Hopefully this chills him out and slows him down. The reason I have a little sympathy is that I’ve been there, early 20’s, having the freedom to roam for work in a decent ish car. Took a magistrate giving me 6 points to make me realise I wasn’t invincible, mine was also the M6 albeit it heading north not far from Scotland.

If he genuinely was pulled over at 90 and told he was doing 90 then it’s a bit unfair.

I've been there myself and we can all look back now being the wrong side of 50.

My advice would be to attend court, dress smart and be very polite.

It worked for me when I got caught doing 96 in a 60 on the A51 near Lichfield many years ago. Sat outside the courtroom in a nice suit I got chatting to a uniformed PC who asked me who I was representing. When I said myself he smiled as he thought I was there to assist one of the unwashed tracksuit wearing locals.

Your colleague also needs to be completely honest and say he needs the car for work.

I ended up with 6 points on top of the 3 that I already had and driving around for 3 years with 9 points certainly slowed me down.

Bad advice.
