On the m56 this morning i unfortunately went through a camera as i was overtaking, the speed limit changed from NSL down to 50 which I failed to clock, the next limit was back up to 70, frustrating as there seemed to be no reason for the change in Limit although this is irrelevant.

Anyway, depending on whereabouts the camera actually takes the reading I was doing 63/64mph GPS

Ignoring the very first line

Lines 1-3 63mph
Lines 4-6 64mph
Lines 7-10 63mph
Lines 10+ 62mph

The limit for a speed awareness course is 64mph, say they calculate my speed to be “between” 64 and 65 will this be rounded to 64 or will it automatically rule out the speed awareness?

And is there a set distance between the camera and detection point?

GPS came from my dash cam, the Waze app is consistent with the cam although I’m aware they are only so accurate.

Do you mean the speed limit changed to 50 as you passed it, or it was already 50 and you didn't realise?

It was already set to 50 as it came into view, I failed to notice

I am guessing from the first image that the cameras in the left of the pic are focussed around where the white car is in that pic.

With all due respect there's no point in trying to analyse it all because you're never gonna know until the nip turns up, if it turns up at all.

Road looks clear as a bell, lucky you were doing the speed you were

I'm sure there must have been a very important reason the speed limit was reduced for such a short section

Do you know that the camera actually flashed? In my experience, the flash is quite noticeable in lighting up the interior of the car so you generally know even if you're not looking out for it. As you have dashcam footage I would check that very carefully, look for reflections off the road signs and the number plate of the white car. It looks like a bright day which isn't helpful but if it flashed, something may have been picked up.

I’ve played the footage numerous time, I can’t detect the slightest hint of a flash on the footage, and I was driving a work van at the time which would have blocked the interior lighting up.

I have seen them flash before when coming from the opposite direction and they are indeed very bright even in the day, whether or not it would be evident on a sunny day from behind I’m not sure, it’s my understanding the chances the camera wasn’t working at the time is extremely unlikely, so I’m working on the assumption that I’ve been caught.

The problem is not only is it a works van, it’s leased, so I’ll have longer than 14 days to wait and see, and I go away for 2 weeks towards the end of May so even if I would be eligible for a SAC, I’m not confident I’d be able to respond in time.

Does the countdown reset every time the ticket office sends out a new letter, as in, first they will send a letter to the keeper which would be the lease company, and then after speaking to my employer a new one will be sent to me? Or are you generally stuffed in this respect?

I’m no less frustrated by it, I’ve been driving 18 years and never had any points or done a SAC before, I was driving under the limit until it changed for no reason, but as I said in my OP, my fault as I should have noticed.

I think you should be fine for time and I'd be surprised if they give you less than 28 days to respond. The NIP will go to the lease company who have to return it with your company details, it'll then get sent to your employer who will then have to send it back with your details so there is potentially a bit of back and forth before it arrives with you.

Even if it does go slightly overdue whilst you are away, I'd still respond as normal and if any issues just claim it must have been delayed in the post. I doubt it would come to that. The last time I had a NIP I'd responded within the required time and had a confirmed date for my SAC when I recieved a letter telling me that I'd missed the deadline to respond to the initial NIP and if I didn't respond to this letter within 14 days then I definitely and absolutely would lose the opportunity to attend a SAC.

It was a quick phone call to point out that their system had screwed up but the point is I think there is some leeway built into the system before they start getting heavy handed despite the threats and dire warnings.
