Crime and punishment in BLiar's Britain
Discussion
(With apologies to Fyodor Dostoyevsky.)
Withholding less than £100 of a Council Tax that has risen 40% when your pension has risen less than 2% is a crime so heinous in BLiar's Britain that a custodial sentence is required.
Shouting a single word in a Nu Labia conference in BLiar's Britain is an offence so heinous for a Jewish pensioner of German descent to commit, that several heavies lay hands upon you (an assault somewhat typical of the gentler of Hitler's Brown Shirts) and bundle you out of the meeting. Then the police invoke the Terrorism Act to prevent your re-entry.
BLiar wants to dispense with Habeas Corpus and imprison people without trial for three months.
BLiar wants to amalgamate the police forces into larger, more amorphous, less directly-accountable (except to the Home Secretary<<<<<<<<<<<<<<Prime Minister), more politicised groups.
BLiar (the 'Cozening Commissioner', that is) demonstrates the modern face of policing in BLair's Britain ... dissimilation, distortion, fabrication, prevarication, disparagement, dissembly, falsification, obfuscation, impersonation (of a police officer), distortion, evasion, equivocation, mendacity, calumniation ...
The moral in BLiar's Britain is: pay up or be banged up, shut up or we'll shut you up!
How long before the Schutzstaffel and Geheime Staatspolizei come out into the open? Might we see our own "Night of the Long Knives"?

I've been muttering about the similarities between Blairs Britain and pre-war Nazi Germany for some time. Just substitute Muslim for Jew.
The intolerance of any dissent, the gradual but unstoppable erosion of civil liberty, the constant reassurances that "its for your own good" and the attitude that the state knows whats best for us. Topped off by a meglomaniac leader with no real opposition within his own party and a cohort of lackies to do his bidding.
We had out opportunity to come to our senses. Now Blair is (surprise surprise) downplaying his intent to step down in favour of Brown, who (slurp slurp) bangs on about continuing the good work started by Blair when he takes over. As if.

Noticed in my local paper in local magistrates court reports that alot of the magistrates time is spent is reissuing community punishments to people who couldn't be arsed to do them in the first place, then an OAP is sent to prison for not paying the total cost of her council tax! Couldn't she have just had an ABSO and run (or hobbled) out of court in full view of TV cameras and stuck various combinations of fingers up at the camera like 'youfs' do on my local news? Or she could have had a community service sentence helping the local WI, then not bothered turning up and been issued with another, and another.
Oh I don't know, people are starting to notice if you saw the audience reactions when questions were asked about Walter Wolfgang on QT on Thursday night. Labour may be in power, but they don't have the support of the majority of the public.
I too am worried about the erosion of the right to protest.
This is how it ends, not with a bang, but with a whimper

I missed the first half of QT
, I did see the part where the question was 'are they worried about the ice cap melting', or similar, and Janet Street Porter (and others on the panel) stated that they need to punish 4x4 drivers more, and the fuel tax is still too low (!!!) almost all of the audience applauded that statement! Seems in the UK at least, you CAN fool most of the people ALL of the time!

There's also the gerrymandering to ensure re-election, both via the boundary commission, and the introduction of nationwide postal voting, which has been shown to be wide open to corruption.
If uttering one word can get you arrested under the Terrorism acts, and without being informed of why you were arrested you can be held for 3 months, it really is heading towards a completely authoritarian state.
Time to watch 'Brazil' again...

The other scams to skew votes to NL are:
1) allow immigration to spiral out of control producing rotten borough electorates in hock to NL. The beauty of this scheme is every word the opposition says against it immediately locks in immigrant votes.
2) create zillions of nonsense outreach facilitation coordinator jobs in the public sector, paid for by the tax payer. Again, every word against them locks in their votes.
3) the intolerable scandal that England has no parliament of its own, while Scots NL MP's force through measures on England.

FFS get this lot out at the next election. OK?
Civil liberties are being eroded and I'm not too sure many people notice as it's chipping away bit by bit.
Quite so, but don't think for one minute that the Tories won't just continue right on with the Wah On Terrah, with all the collateral damage to our way of life that that entails.
I despair.
Round here recently there were three blokes beat up another bloke pretty badly live on full CCTV ; very very clear and obvious what was happening, who they were etc.
There was no doubt they were squabbling beforehand, but it was a way OTT response (the three were all soldiers). Big trial.... they were found guilty *but* received a trivial non custodial sentence.
Meanwhile, there are things like people being sent to jail for showing someone the beheading video.
I despair sometimes (god alone knows how the BiB feel about it).
It seems to me in this f----- country that upsetting people and holding the wrong opinions are more of a crime than kicking someone's head off.
It's like those three coppers who were crucified over a stupid racist comment by one of them (not that terrible), the other two merely didn't take sufficiently strong action against the first !
What kind of dump are we becoming ?

Yes, that 80-year-old could indeed have been a terrorist. Hell, he was lucky, he may even have been shot...many times in the head.

That Conservative polititian seemed OK. A bit Churchill-esque.

We did try and remove this bunch of idiots in the last election.
In case anyone's forgotten, they achieved 22% of the UK popular vote, and were beaten to 2nd place within England.
A little bit of changing electoral boundaries and it's amazing what you can achieve
Nope, the majority of the electorate voted for more Tony - anyone who either voted Lib Dem or abstained from voting effectively counted as a vote for Labour. Not to say most people on this forum voted Tory, but any who didn't have only themselves to blame. So, around 20% voted Conservative, everyone else by direct or indirect action put Labour back in. Next time, maybe the public will be less stupid (when Tony says 'a vote for Lib Dem may let the Conservatives in,' he really says 'vote Lib Dem, go on, that's votes that will dwindle the Conservatives vote, and will get me back in - suckers'. And amazingly no-one seemed to be able to see through this incredibly obvious scam!
