Is Waze still the best general purpose Camera Van alerting tool or is anything else threatening to take supremacy?

I'm fortunate to mostly drive in a way that vans don't affect me but I'm very paranoid so just want to keep on top of this for the few more years before the exponential growth in Operation Snap snitches has ruined everything.

Google maps now has the ability to allow users to alert other drivers of cameras, road works etc . Seems to work well.

Google alerts are very patchy. Waze is well supported by its users. Waze suffers the idiots that think motorway traffic officer cars are police cars but other than that its great.

Just used waze in France and it didn't miss a camera. OR mobile speed trap

Google alerts has been great around here.

It pops up when you are nearby and then asks to confirm if it’s still there.

As a daily user of Waze from the start I get your point about the Traffic Officers being wrongly identified but when you think about it where is the harm ? I would rather be warned about them than not as at least it reassures that fellow users are at least paying attention even if occasionally getting the identification wrong . Much more worrying is the Camera Vans that are present but haven't yet been spotted . Fortunately I travel over much the same area daily and where these Camera Vans are positioned doesn't tend to alter much though on occasions you get your "oh st" moments .

Aye - its not a deal breaker, but its a touch frustrating when people cry wolf - though I'm nto surprised the current pop don't know the difference between a police car and a motorway traffic assistant's car - they are deliberately made to look similar, and most road users don't even know what a national speed limit sign means.

As a satnav, waze is patchy. Bus gates in Aberdeen has been in place almost 6 months and it was still routing through them.

If you know what the National Speed limit signs mean, why do you need Waze?

I've found Waze becomingly more difficult to use as it does show some very odd routes sometimes?

I do think it may be time for g oogle to combine the two and make some sort of super satnav with the best bits of both systems?

The best technology, is to not need or use one at all. The problem is, the better it gets the more complacent you will become. And they are never 100% because the van could have literally just parked up and stuck the camera out.

And don't forget there's unmarked police cars out there.

Personally, I have been advised by users to use Waze a few times before & each time I tried it it missed VITAL points on each journey.

Missing a full road closure that was in place each & every evening & well in place by the time I got there.

Mis-reporting incidents that should have completely stopped another journey, but due to the above I ignored it & went straight through what should have been a full-on road closure.

Never used it since, surprisingly.

You say that but when this has happened to me it's often been because of some roadworks or accident that nobody has so far reported . I have occasionally ignored the guidance and paid for it by being sat in a tailback for ages

All way too funny :-)

Well, Waze got us through France to Strasbourg, back to Reims, then back to the UK, with plenty of twisties thrown in and every camera was on there. Audio prompts were a bit random, but I just kept my eye on it. Whereas ,as much as google is perfect for nav and traffic, the camera alerts are not something I trust, particularly as mostly it doesn't ask me if they are still there.

I just get the feeling Waze users are in it for the same reasons as me, and Google users are in it as its the main map app.....

Frankly, a few wrong traffic updates mean nothing to me compared to NOT being warned about an angry French copper or camera.

Used Waze in Mrs H's car yesterday - first time through Android Auto - and I noticed the car screen didn't have the camera / copper icons shown on it, only the phone screen.

Anyone know if that's an A-Auto setting or if A-Auto doesn't want to tell you?

France outlawed ‘driving aids’ and have nasty penalties for their use. This includes phone apps.
After years of vandalism to their fixed cameras they introduced mobile unmarked systems that are undetectable.
Thankfully you missed them or they missed you.

Perhaps if you had read the post I was responding to, you would perhaps of seen I was responding in a light-hearted way. If you had looked at the top of my post you would haven even seen a smiling emoji.
