Any legal eagles able to double check this contract please?
Discussion
Afternoon all,
I'm currently in the throes of buying a dream car from America.
The export agent handling it for me is a well reputed company that has been around for a while, and the car has been independently inspected and checks out OK.
As they are middle manning for me I'm not eligible for any sort of Section 75 payment protection so a lot of this is in trust, they're used to this and have sent me a general contract they use that is valid both in their state and in the UK.
IANAL, so would anyone who is please be able to have a brief look at it if I PM it to you? I'm happy to pay for half an hour of your billable time to make sure all checks out!
TIA

But, I’m not sure what the fees might be.

I m not being funny, but you really are hoping for a lot here. You refer to the person whose help you re looking for’s billable time, and you suggest paying them, so you re clearly looking for professional legal advice, probably from somebody with cross border expertise. And it relates to the purchase of a dream car, so there must presumably be some money at stake. But you re also saying that you ll pay for half an hour of the ‘legal eagle’s’ time, so you re only wanting to pay somewhere around perhaps £200. I don t think you’re likely to get any takers.I'm currently in the throes of buying a dream car from America.

Hire a lawyer if you want, and receive professional advice. Or take some free opinions from strangers on the internet about points you re worried about - that’s what you ll get on a forum like this. But it sounds like you’re hoping for the best bits of both of these.

Apologies for giving the wrong impression. It's a 2 page contract with a few very brief lines, but it is drafted to meet the law in both the origins and destination country.
Basically I just wanted someone to say "yup that checks out" rather than needing a full deconstruction of a a 500 page merger deal

That just makes it worse- you’re looking for someone with knowledge of UK and US law (presumably relevant state and federal) to check a contract that you deem ‘only a couple of pages’ so you’re going to determine how long it should take them?
Sorry but it reads like one of those ‘need someone to paint my hallway, got paint will only take 2 hours’

IANAL but worked as a Commercial Manager for many years including importing from the US.
Lots of warning bells ringing to me, a contract needs to be subject to one law framework and the US is a Federal system.
You need to speak to a lawyer and it will take more than hall an hour of their time.

It’s all about indemnity…any lawyer worth his salt is not going to give you an okay without them considering the risk that if it does go pear shaped he may face the risk of you dragging him through the courts and for that reason alone he/she is going to give it more than half an hour of their time and bill accordingly.

A decent suggestion, but for legal stuff I wouldn't trust AI at all. I've seen enough examples of it flat out making things up!
A mate asked one for info without success and finally got to admit that it had made up an answer!ChemicalChaos said:

Just post it here. Given how everyone on here seems to love spending hours arguing with each other over semantics and just generally being pedants, it's pretty much guaranteed that if there's any glaring red flags in it someone will post about it, followed by the usual 18 pages of arguments. If there's no replies about it then you can fairly safely conclude that it's all above board and you can send your monies!I'm currently in the throes of buying a dream car from America.

You re showing on PH as a Chemical Analyst . Would you be happy to work and use your expertise for nothing?
Thought not.
I know CC somewhat and yes I expect he probably would do someone a favour if they needed some chemistry stuff doing. I would too. He's a long standing member of PH with many contributions so it's not like he has rocked up and used his first post to ask for help.Thought not.
Surely you just need to know the insurance provision. I.e. the time and dates / stage of the delivery it’s the agent’s insurance and then when it transfers to you and is your / your insurers problem.
If it’s a lot of money I’d have my own insurance in place as soon as the funds have gone from my account.
