I was caught speeding by cops in a car using the radar gun. Fair enough,I accepted, paid the fine and submitted my license details online.
However as I made the error of not supplying my licence details via post they escalated my case to court for failing to produce. I was given extra 3 points on top of the 3 points first given and also fined even more.
My gripe is the police have all my licence details already as they have managed to add the points to my licence without me supplying them the license details as requested. I thought going to court should be a last resort, but seems it was unnecessary.I wonder if I have a case to complain.

You acknowledge that you made the error of not sending your license. The fact that you think it's unnecessary is irrelevant.

So no, you don't have any case to complain.

Can you explain why it was necessary for the police to take it to court for me not giving them details they already had.

I would guess it is simply because there isn't a "fixed penalty" for the offence you committed, just guessing, however I am also guessing that had you read the paperwork correctly it would state that in there.

Oh, and by the way, you weren't taken to court for speeding as per the thread title.

Why were you required to submit your licence details by post? I thought you could do the whole thing online as you said you did.

A lot of missing info here. My guess as to what actually happened is as follows.

Fixed penalty offer received

Driver was told to provide licence details as part of that process

Driver did not provide licence details

SJPN issued

Driver pleaded guilty to speeding only

Because the speed/limit was 49/30, 65/40, 75/50 or similar, the single magistrate ordered licence endorsed with 6 points. There was also a fine, surcharge and costs.

Following an early guilty plea, a Band B Fine is usually two-thirds of net weekly income but subject to the relevant maximum penalty.

If that happened then you don’t have any cause to complain.

You could appeal against sentence, but you’re at risk of a costs order should that not resolve in your favour.
