I’ve got one of these private parking tickets. For not being whole within the bay.

But there are no lines at the front and the back…

Probably not my best parking. But I was only popping in for 2 minutes to get my daughter birthday present and they have a bollard in the bay.

What do you guys think? Pay the £50 or fight it? I don’t mind a battle on principle but I don’t want to waste energy to lose in small claims court if I’m bang to rights.

it'll depend on the signage

What difference the bollard makes to you getting out as the driver on the opposite side I guess I'll never know

I fear this will not end well. 'I was just popping in' is irrelevant, the bollard isn't in the bay and you haven't parked in the space properly, you've even admitted as much. Not sure what else to add really. The injustice of £50 for lousy parking is probably another discussion.

The lines to the side clearly indicate the bay though. They've got a decent picture of the enormous space you left at the front, and the rear end sticking out the bay. Looks like a slam-dunk.

The majority of car park bays dont have lines at the front/back. You use the lines to the side to determine where the bay is.
The ticket looks justified to me.

Umm fair enough.

The time on the ticket they sent in the post also don’t allign with the photo time stamps.

The reason I say that the bollard is in the way is due to the height of it and the height of my dog car. If I move anymore forward I can’t actually see the bollard and am guessing how far away it is.

The signage just shows that you should be parked between the lines. And says you shouldn’t be obstructing over road users. I’m guessing there argument will be that I’m obstructing other road users.

This. The bollard is on the side line marking, you would not be anywhere near it if you parked in the centre of the bay. I would go so far as to say the car is not parked, merely abandoned somewhere near a space.

May be technically, but a £50 charge is immoral.

Parking companies are a law unto themselves. I've just received a £70 bill for spending 7 hours in my local Co-op....except I didn't, I shopped there twice in one day 7 hours apart.

I had one overturned after advice from Pepipoo (RIP frown). I can't remember the exact wording, but it was along the lines of the white line markings were unenforceable, which I assumed was a bit of a long shot, but NCP cancelled the fine. FWIW I was parked on the white line at the end of a row with only a wall next to it. I was prepared to pay the fine, but thought it was worth an email, and it was.

Looks pretty clear you are hanging out of the back of the bay and from the picture at least it looks like if you parked centerally within the bay you would miss the bollard anyway.

Maybe a little harsh to get a fine but the parking is poor.

I mean you could give it a go, you have nothing to lose beyond your time and possibly sanity but at face value, you really haven't parked it terribly well.

Not an issue when reversing with properly adjust mirrors though i do get this space is essentially drive-through so nobody would.

Seriously unlucky if you were only in for 2 minutes and they had an enforcement officer turn up in those rofl

Photo time stamps, how far out?

Was there something preventing getting out and looking how much clearance was left?

Over an hour difference between the ticket and the time stamp. And not likely to be just a change in clocks moving as it’s minutes out as well.

Only laziness stopped me getting out and looking. The photos make it look much worst than it is. The photos don’t really do that parking justice. It’s not just one bay. In front of it is another bay. But there is no line separating them. So you’d have to guess how far forward to go to not infringe on that bay. The bollard is probably the central point dividing the two bays.

Do the times on either the ticket, or the photo timestamps on the pictures, roughly correlate with the times you were parked there?

Probably. It was my daughter’s birthday and I brought her a scooter. And the photo is my car. I have no idea what time I was there though. Roughly around the time of the ticket within a few hours.

It looks like that space is right on the corner of a junction where people will be turning in to the parking area so you really are in the way, probably why they snapped it.

You have no defence. So I'd say, just pay up the £50.

Slam dunk that one, the white line ending is the end of the bay and your outside it, trying to use the bollard as an excuse is weak.

Sucker that one up and accept it, next time you'll look back after parking and think am I in the lines.
