Gatso attacked with meths
Norfolk man convicted of arson
A lad who poured meths into a Gatso and set light to it because he thought it had flashed him as he drove past it was wasting his time: the device had been attacked twice in recent days and was already out of action. One previous attack had happened earlier the same evening.
Eighteen-year-old Daniel Wardall admitted the crime and was convicted of arson. He was given a sentence of 250 hours of community work and ordered to pay costs of £45 by local magistrates, who called it "a very serious crime".
The incident took place on Norfolk's A146 at Thurton.
So much anger. Almost makes you feel sorry for the camera...
Discussion
Feature on last nights Anglia TV News saying that a number of cameras in the Anglia region had been destroyed (at £40,000 each!).
Interviews with several people, ost of whom were anti-camera and said hey could understand the anger these things have generated.
The Cambs Police declined to be interviewd in case highlighting this increasd the level of attacks (we can but hope, maybe). They just commented, as might be expected, that these attacks were reducing road safety and that those caught would face a severe penalty.

I may be wrong but I believe the £40k is for just the tin box and flasher unit. If you get one with a with a camera in it as well the cost/loss is a lot more.
how can that cost £40k?
I am sure last year they used to say they cost £20k and i thought that was ridiculous!
'Bryan Edwards, communications manager at the Norfolk Casualty Reduction Partnership, which is responsible for the county's speed cameras, said: "It is clear by this sentence that the courts do recognise the role that safety cameras contribute to road safety. Arson can carry a life sentence. It is a very serious offence."'
It shows no such thing! This is the same imbecile who's always spouting his 60% regression to mean reduction lie in the face of real figures from the police showing no change). It just shows that they frown upon people setting light to stuff, which we already know.
I drove past this camera a few weeks ago and noticed with glee that someone seemed to have levered up the top plate from the back and put some fire inside.
Gave me a warm happy feeling all the way home

Meths, pah. Don't these kids pay attention in chemistry.... Thermite, that's the correct solution to the scamera menace
I actually do condone the widescale destruction of scameras. It is a direct protest action against a plague on our roads that has led to an increase in deaths.
The only crime here is that he didn't pick on a live one.

That Thermalite chemical is used on Brainiac Science abuse on TV. Perhaps, instead of blowing up mobile homes, they could try it on a scamera (Just in the name of science you understand). Then go back to blowing up caravans again, because we all love a "shed dragger".

I assume you meant thermite? Who wasn't paying attention?
Feck, bugger, arse
Mind you a breeze block might still be an acceptable alternative

Have done a few tests - I was somewhat disspointed by the effects of thermite on a metal plate. Although I admit that the plate was probably a bit thick.
More tests required I think (and more materials)
