can someone remind me the no. of days that the powers that be need no deliver a NIP, please. (My heavy footed mrs was a little 'distracted' the other week).
Seem to remember 21 days?

Further, if it arrives late does it rewalyl not stand (presumably postmark date is the one to check)

thanks all

14 days not counting the date of the offence,if I remember correctly. This can of course be complicated if it's a lease/company car etc.It has to be posted to the reg keeper within this time limit.

14 days...and 1st class post counts as next day service.

Late NIP ?? Depends on the circumstances. For instance, if your car's details held by the DVLA are incorrect (if you had changed cars / address recently) then the scammers could not have got the NIP to you within 14 days. That is not deemed to be their fault and as long as the 1st NIP was served within the 14 day period to the DVLA listed RK, then the NIP would be valid by the time it reached you.

The 14 day count starts the day after the offence. Weekends are included in the count. The NIP has to be posted by first class post by Day 13, and then irrespective of whether it arrives on Day 14 or not it is assummed it did. If Day 14 is a Sunday or Bank Holiday then it will have to be posted a day or more earlier as the assumption is that it will be delivered next day in the normal course of the post. Postie doesn't deliver on Sundays or Bank Holidays. Some would say he rarely delivers anyway!

Curious about NIPs now that I have driven through a speed trap on the A11 at an indicated 79 (marginally under 80 anyway). I have a road angel but the fag lighter was on the blink and it wasn't connected.
distracted by my 4.5 year old in the seat next to me too. Anyway, I understand that the nickable limit is something like speed limit plus 10% plus 2mph. IS this right??
If so 79mph might just let me go.

Regardless, I'm awaiting a little something in the post...

C.e.t.

If the SCP are working to Acpo Guidelines then as you say there is a leeway of 10% + 2mph before enforcement action kicks in. However some on this site have reported having been 'enforced' at under this criteria. It is also the view of a certain Chief Constable in the Land of the Leeks that at 1 mph above the limit you are speeding and accountable.

Bearing in mind the above and the fact that vehicle speedo's tend to overread by a margin if your Guardian Angel of the winged variety was with you then you are safe.

Nothing in 15 days in the post then GA was with you.
