Local sites reporting the top 5 speeds detected on the notorious A9

I may have done a hit of BBC editing & cut a few comments out to make this picture but it’s humorous!

Makes you wonder if the drivers were caught by the average speed cameras (poor substitute for safety when it should be dual carriageway) or by other means?

My Volvo is limited to 112mph so no chance of the top spot frown

Make alone isn't very newsworthy. At least if they'd done make/model/engine/year, we could have all known what's good or not.

The Volvo doing over 112mph must have been old or remapped.

It's been a long time since I went on the A9, but my memory of it is mostly going at 25mph in heavy traffic, and the rest of the time it's mostly dark and/or icy

After being held up for miles on a single carrigeway section by a van doing 50 there is a temptation to get the foot down on the dual sections. AFAIK the average speed cameras only time the single sections so you are relying on traffic cars or camera vans for the fast dual sections. I drive the A9 regularly and hardly ever see speed traps between Inverness and Perth. Do you feel lucky?

If we had a competent govt it would have all been dualled long ago. Go SNP!!!

Unfortunately a van doing 50mph is doing the limit on single carriageway sections... probably mega frustrating for the van drivers out there too. But yes, it's the sort of road that blends narrow, slow sections with zero scope to pass especially if queues start forming behind slow stuff with wide, empty well sighted dual sections that do lend themselves well to some elevated speeds. Though that was more viable pre-average camera days.

I think the A9 actually flows well enough with the Lorries allowed to travel at 50, albeit not as fast as some of us would like!

Yes we hit the dual sections & gets a bit wacky races to past the 50mph stuff before they end.

I often see police/camera vans on dual sections
