Whilst driving.

I've been driving for 44 years and I've been stopped a total of 10 times. Breathalysed 4 times (all negative, all around Xmas),1 speeding ticket, 1 no seatbelt ticket and 1 dodgy number plate ticket (in my defence it was fitted to the car when I bought it, however I knew it was dodgy - too small - and I didn't change it).

Three, I think.

Speeding at 18, was a fair cop and I've been careful since.

In Poland where I don't think there was a speed limit change sign. I wasn't going the fastest, but I was the one who stopped. Somehow got away with a £3 fine.

Not speeding about fifteen years ago; idiot plod hadn't seen the metre-wide retro-reflective NSL sign and thought it was a 50. Had the cheek to tell me to be more careful.

One speeding ticket over 40 years ago, one ‘you’ll be reported for speeding’ but nothing happened. The last one was about 20 year ago. Never been breathalised.

Should have made it a poll? hehe

None. Much more likely to get pulled overseas.

30 years driving, just once. I was stopped in my dad's car about about 30 years ago, it was late, I'd left the now wife's house for the evening doing a quick u-turn at the bottom of the road, I was stopped on the main road as there had been suspicious goings on in the area recently and the police were about, they thought my manoeuvre was suspicious.

Upon stopping me they spotted a black rat sticker in the rear window, my dad was traffic police, and decided to test me by asking what it was all about, obviously I knew and explained, all was good, they knew of my dad and let me go on my way.

4 stops in 45 years.

18yo on motorbike - 51 in a 40 at 3 am 3 point.
19yo on motorbike - ?? in a 40 - (LSS) just back from 4 months away in RN - be more careful.
22yo on motorbike - ?? in M27 - (LSS) "hello Barry, didn't realise you lived near here" - be more careful.
25yo on motorbike - 95 on M6 - (LSS) "I'm late" - "how fast will it go?" - "follow me" cue 90mph escort down M6

ETA another just remembered.
40yo in car - overtaking approaching a roundabout didn't cross the median - bullsh!t charge - took pics - dropped at court - MAG stated it was clearly someone having a bad day and didn't like being overtaken.

Breathalysed once in 1985 (negative). Pulled for speeding on M25 in a van. 1991 - 3 points + £30 fine.
Pulled on motorcycle in 2012 for attempting a not very clever overtake on an unmarked car: was given a proper dressing down, but I passed the attitude test & was sent on my way. Proper bking actually made me step back & think about roadcraft!

Just remembered another, about 25 years ago I was pulled whilst driving a van, for being on my phone, I wasn't and didn't even have a phone on me, the policeman did a quick search of the cab and strangely enough couldn't find one, I was sent on my way.

In my teens I had a small van as a first car. Got stopped a couple of times late at night. Regular route and a prime "suspect" in the van. Checks for where I'd been, what was in theback (empty ). In the end just waved as I drove passed their car. No breathalyser needed, never a drink driver. Never stopped since but had a couple of camera tickets for SAC or points. Nothing for several years now.

In 42 years, twice, once in my 30s, one of my main beam bulbs had blown, the copper stopped me about a mile from my mum's house after a 200 mile journey. I'd noticed the light had gone a mile or two back but it was such a ballache to change that I decided to wait and do it at her house. He got me in that 10 minutes window!

He was very pleasant, told me it was dangerous, I explained what had happened and showed him the bulb kit I kept in the car and promised to change it pronto. He was happy with that and sent me on my way.

The other time was when I was out driving a bunch of mates at Christmas, I was probably 19, old but nicely restored mini, centre of the city, driving at snails pace past the railway station and a copper on foot was waving his torch at cars, basically having a sniff when the windows were opened to talk to him. I was clearly not drinking and he didn't even bother to breathalyse me.

Breathalysed once, after I managed to put my fiesta in a ditch - not speeding but was going a bit too quick over a hump back bridge and the stopping distance available before the T junction was shorter than my then braking skill. Ended up in the ditch beyond the T at about 3 or 4 mph. I was 21 or 22, after an evening out in a New Forest pub with Uni friends. I'd had a pint 2 or 3 hours previously, admitted as much, and it faintly showed on the breathalyser but nowhere near the limit. Cop was fine with it.

Once - on foot!
Really dumb plain-clothes person, claiming to be a police officer, he was driving a crappy old Fiesta.
He said there'd been some burglaries locally, and why was I walking along this road so late (9.30pm!).
I declined to tell him (I was 50 yards from my own house).

Been driving 55 years so it’s hard to recall.

Used to get stopped regularly when I was young, done once for a bald tyre and once for a faulty exhaust. Both times at night after I’d been in the pub and probably over the limit. Second time I thought I’d had more than my share of luck and I don’t touch alcohol at all if I’ve got the car.

Last time was about 15 years ago on my bike going down to visit my GF. Got pulled on the Saturday and told to slow down. Didn’t seem to sink in because I got caught for speeding on the way home on the Sunday. 91 in a 60. 6 points and £200.

I am going to guess slightly and say 4 times - one quite recently for 92 in a 70.... I thought the unmarked BMW was chasing me. Honest.

I am quite a law abiding citizen these days (apart from the above), but when I grew up in the 70's I rode around on motorbikes with no insurance and no licence - country lanes in rural Devon, but even so, not a good example to set. There were no computers back then. smile

56 years old.

Breathalised once (after three pints of stella and passed, just) when I was around 20

Other than that, don't think I've ever been pulled over.

9 in total I think.

2 of those resulted in speeding points (1st was an a55hole, 2nd was a top bloke), 1 for stopping on zig zag lines, 1 for crossing double white lines (very tenuous that one)!
The others, I clearly passed the attitude test or the coppers were in the wrong wink

Not bad considering the miles I ve done & how I drove as a young un!

Edited to say, never breathalised.

Once in the UK...in my Griff. I overtook a Police car within the legal limit but when they stopped me they said that their car vibrated when I went past them! It did have straight through pipes though. They were great about it and just tipped me off that if the Traffic Police stopped me they might not be so kind! I got a Red Rose set up after that,

Once in the USA doing 75 in a 50 zone. The copper only wrote me up for 15mph over the limit though as otherwise, he explained, I'd have to be taken to the local jailhouse for the night!

Once in Austria on a European hoon. The copper was hiding in a bus stop and did me for doing 45Kph in a 30Kph zone.

Not too bad for 41 years driving.

Lost count.
When I was young I worked icecream vans at night to supplement my student then trainee incomes.
Used to drive home from work late and was regularly subject to "just a routine check sir" type stops.
Back in the old days late night drivers were so few and far between those of us who were out and about were considered as suspicious.
