Been looking into doing a spot of this to top up the income for xmas. To the point where I've been offered a job, however I'm not certain that my licence entitles me.

I know, I know, the guy that owns the bus should know this - but I'm in the Republic of Ireland so before I go any further - assuming I was still in the UK would my UK licence cover this?

Now, this is quite an old licence, passed about 16 years ago, I have the following vehicle categories:
A,B,BE,B1,C1,C1E,D1,D1E and the usual f,k,l,n,p

Now, D1 & D1E seem to cover the class of vehicle - i.e. < 16 passengers, but assuming all the insurance is in place is there any extra test I would need to do to cover the hire and reward aspect?

many thanks

If the vehicle in question falls within the definition of a Public Service Vehicle which is a motor vehicle adapted to carry more than 8 passengers for HIRE or REWARD then a PSV Drivers Licence could be required in addition to the D1 quoted above. (Public Passenger Vehicle Act 1981 - Road Traffic (Driver Licensing and Information Systems) Act 1989)

There are exemptions from PSV Licence back to D1 for Mini buses (8 to 16 passengers) operating under Transport Act 1985 on a section 19 permit granted to bodies concerned with religion, education, social welfare or other activities of benefit to the community or a Section 22 permit - community bus service provided by voluntary bodies.
