I have changed cars.

My old car is currently up for sale privately and my insurer has provided 14 days cover whilst I try to sell whilst insuring my new car too.

As the end of this period closes and despite being the cheapest type of this car (mileage, age and spec) for sale in the country (diesel DS3 if anyone is interested?) , I will need to get it insured until it sells.

I tried Veygo, who came up with a monthly premium greater than my annual premium redface

Any recommendations before I start plugging details into every short term car insurer. Obviously I couldn't duplicate my no claims to this new policy. Any tips?

I have three cars insured already, but need some cover to park on the street, no use of car needed, except for occasional test drive from punters...but hopefully use their third party cover instead.

A few years ago but when I had the same problem I took out a standard Direct Line policy and elected to pay monthly, when the car sold I cancelled the policy and stopped paying the premium.

Their cancellation terms may have changed.

Don't advise this now, many are heavily weighted in their favour when you look at the cancellation charges early on.

OP.
Just get back in touch with your Ins Co, they will almost certainly give you the best deal to extend the cover they have already.

Have you got a secure garage? could you get car delivered (if seller local) and park it in secure garage -with another car on drive directly in front.

Park one existing cars on road and continue to use another car that is already insured-the car for sale?

Leave new car in garage and only insure it when old one sells. Very small risk of something happening to stored car- but in 50 years of motoring never had to make a claim for any incident when car has been in garage.

Did these when bought a 35iZ4 owner drove it to my home purchase completed and I took him home(about 25miles eachway)

I did exactly the same a while ago, but with Admiral, when I wanted insurance for about 6 weeks or so. There was a cancellation fee but the insurance cost was spread evenly across the year, so when I cancelled it the amount paid plus the cancellation fee was still less than the best short term policy I could find. Obviously this isn't such a good option if you only want it for a week.
Probably not an issue for you but I also found none of the short term policy providers would cover me driving abroad, which I needed.

Likewise, I have done this twice in the past year for various reasons. Took out a full new policy and then cancelled when no longer needed. First time I was within the 14 day cooling off period so got a full refund less a £25 admin fee. 2nd time I had it a bit longer, about 4 weeks I think, but got a full refund less a pro-rata charge for the days I'd been covered and a cancellation fee. Still ended up considerably cheaper than any short-term specialist policies.

I've used Tempcover. I currently have a Model 3 loaner from Tesla while mine is in the shop for warranty work. I got a weeks cover via them with Allianz for £72.

Thanks all. Interesting that short term policies are not the route forward.....

So, I could clear my garage and put the DS3 in there, except I have five bikes in there already (plus other crap) which will be a pain.

I think I am going to try and squeeze all four cars on the driveway and then not bother insuring it. A bit of short term pain I think getting in and out. We live in a (very) safe area and the driveway is tricky to get cars in and out of anyway with access across a neighbouring property.
